The Beck Factor at Fox: Staffers say comments taint their work
Washington Post ^ | 15 Mar 2010 | Howard Kurtz

A handful of advertisers, such as Apple, have abandoned Fox altogether. Network executives say they believe they could charge higher rates if the host were more widely acceptable to advertisers.

I wonder how much longer Fox will stand by him. Money talks, you know. It’s a lose-lose situation for Fox, in my opinion, even though

Just watch Fox's massive profits this year, and see where that empty talk of “lose lose situation” gets ya. Beck is pure win for Fox. His ratings totally destroy anyone else's at 5 PM. Plus he brings in all these huge number of viewers at 5 PM, which in turn boosts the ratings of every single Fox prime time program after his.

Mention any conservative by name and there will always be people on FR who will attack them and rip them to pieces. That's why we will not have a real candidate for pres in 2012.

What are you smoking? Resentment weed?

That would be you.
And you are not just smoking weed. You gotta be on something a darn sight stronger than that.
Like most Applebots, you are crazy as a coot.

Depends on what you mean a higher rate? If you mean higher then CNN then sure. But if you mean higher than they are charging now...then no...otherwise they would be.

Windows Mobile 7 is supposed to be a game changer. Microsoft is scrapping its current thinking of appealing to business and going after the consumer. Do some research on win mobile 7 and you’ll see the intial reaction is very favorable and they are talking about it outdoing the iPhone. I’ll believe it when I see it though.

I love it when liberals give us business advice to “do us a favor.” When there is a 60 second gap in the ads on fox with no one who wants to buy it, then we’ll worry. In the meantime how are the Washington Post’s numbers looking?

This is the situation from last year. CNN was charging $5.81 for a 30-second ad, while Fox is charging only $3.97 for the same 30 second ad. Since then, CNN ratings have fallen even further behind, while Fox's continue to rise. For this year, I would expect Fox's rate for a 30 second ad to be higher than it was last year.
As far as the Monthly Subscriber Fee is concerned, Fox was charging $0.49 per subscriber, while CNN was charging $0.48 per subscriber for last year. Earlier this year, Fox negotiated a tough new contract with Time Warner Cable, which rumors suggest was as high as 99 cents per Subscriber. Ergo, Fox's profits this year are going to be considerably higher than last year. As for CNN, they are going to find it increasingly hard t get advertisers to pony up the high rates they are charging, because CNN’s ratings are not only too damn low, CNN’s ratings just keep falling from their already low levels.

In the meantime how are the Washington Post’s numbers looking?

Here ya go:
New York Times (NYT) Loses Over 7% Of Circulation, Washington Post (WPO) Down 6%”
http://247wallst.com/2009/10/26/new-york-times-nyt-loses-over-7-of-circulation-washington-post-wpo-down-6/

So here we have a guy from an outfit(WaPo), who’s profits and circulation have been falling for years, giving advise on how to be succesful to an outfit (Fox News), who’s ratings and profits have been rising for years. If that is not chutzpah, I don’t know what is.

If numbers don't dictate the rate, how do you explain $2.5 M for 30 seconds at the Super Bowl?

Unless you have a new economic model then supply and demand dictates the rates--regardless of the numbers. Numbers help them set the rate and justify it, but if no one wants to buy the time then the price will go down.

Why is it $2.5M for 30 seconds for the superbowl? Because that's what buyers were willing to pay. Why wasn't it $3.0M for 30 seconds? Because that's not what they were willing to pay. Supply and demand.

I was kind of shocked with revoltingcat came out of left field with stock prices. But then he even goes further out to nuttyville when he claims you are smoking weed because you don’t wish to discuss his stock buying tips.

I have also noticed that Beck and Hannity never mention each other. BO welcomed Beck to Fox, but not a peep from Hannity. I wonder why.

I’ve done a lot of research. The problem is I want to stay with AT&T but I want to use an HTC device because of Sense UI. So far, there is no HTC device that will run G3 data on AT&T’s GSM network.

I have an HTC Fuze...But I had to change the ROM out to make it good. WM6.5 isn’t bad it’s just not user friendly and you have to tweak the heck out of it to make it what you want. But the good thing is it can be exactly what you want if you put the effort into it. Well it’s still missing all the apps.

ratings talk BS walks.

Beck is a ratings machine.

OReily was supposed to be the fox anchor show. Oreily is a dud and a phoney.

Beck should have his spot.

I had abandoned FNC but for the financial show and even those were pretty useless as they became infested with useless WH trolls.

apple projects its corporate policy as left wing. Then again it is easy to abandon a news network that was not to be used anyways.

Why don’t we say, “How long can MSNBC affort to keep Olberman on the air since Freerepublic.com is refusing to advertise on MSNBC.”

All the news networks have different business models.

CNN is just a distribution to all the world BUT the usa.

FNC is “a current affair” since they have Oreily stinking up the place.

MSNBC is the mouthpiece for GE.

Maybe instead of firing Beck, they should fire the socialists who work at Fox News.

Just got a WSJ news alert that Apple will introduce a CDMA iPhone later this year. That should open the door for AT&T to get an iPhone-killing GSM phone.
