If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or by force to seize, take, or possess any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall each be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both. This and related statutes — and more importantly their interpretation — can be very dangerous to Free Speech. This is especially true if it's abused by the Government and the Political Opposition (in this case, the Democratic Party and Democratic politicians, the MSM and the Left-Wing Blogosphere). |
I can think of several incidents when this could have been used, and wasn’t. I just wonder what makes this case different. It seems to me Michael Moore and Soros have been guilty of this, as well as those that pronounced “death to Bush” or said they would stop at nothing to see him out of office...
As to this group I don’t know anything about them and have no idea what they may be guilty of-or not. I will hold my judgement about this being right or wrong. It is definately something to keep an eye on and see how it all unfolds.
