The US is considering abstaining from a possible UN Security Council resolution against Israeli settlement expansion in East Jerusalem, the BBC has learned.
The US usually blocks Security Council resolutions criticising Israel.
But relations between the allies have been severely strained by the announcement of plans to build 1,600 homes in an East Jerusalem settlement during a recent visit to Israel by US Vice-President Joe Biden.

I hope all the Jewish voters who voted for Obama are taking note and will correct their mistake next time around.
LOL
Even Congress is starting to notice. Three-fourths of the House signed a letter to Secretary Clinton expressing their dismay over the tone and direction of U.S.-Israeli relations.
The US has always been pro-Israel — until Obama got elected, who is very clearly anti-Israel. He blew this Jerusalem settlement issue out of proportion and is using it as an excuse to abandon Israel.
As I said, Jewish voters (80% voted for Obama) who voted for him are taking note.
OBAMA THE PRESIDENT OF THE MUSLIM WORLD WILL BE TOAST IF THE USA DOES NOT SUPPORT ISRAEL IN THE UNITED NATIONS.
Barack Obama, the alleged president, is bringing shame - and extreme danger - on the United States.
Zechariah 2
1I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand.
2Then said I, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length thereof.
3And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him,
4And said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein:
5For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.
6Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the land of the north, saith the LORD: for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven, saith the LORD.
7Deliver thyself, O Zion, that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon.
8For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.
9For, behold, I will shake mine hand upon them, and they shall be a spoil to their servants: and ye shall know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me.
10Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the LORD.
11And many nations shall be joined to the LORD in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto thee.
12And the LORD shall inherit Judah his portion in the holy land, and shall choose Jerusalem again.
13Be silent, O all flesh, before the LORD: for he is raised up out of his holy habitation.
The whole deal is just more Jew-hating from the UN left.
The USA. Our govt is not the same as the people, who are overwhelmingly in support of Israel.
Ya think? What for? They won't change because of this.
I almost hope that the US abstains. Let’s get the truth out on the table and let G-d take over.
Most American Jews are loyal only to one creed: Socialism. They could care less about Israel.
This is a prime example of a dictator tossing supporters overboard when he no longer needs them. Jews make up 2.2% of the US population but hold disproportionate influence to their numbers due to larger concentrations of wealth in the Jewish population as well as the prominence of Jewish leaders in business, academia, politics, and the medical profession. Jews have been historically extremely liberal politically, supplying significant funding for the Democrat party as well as funding left wing political action groups. American Jews have also been big supporters of Israel, although some of the secular Jews in recent years seem to be less fervent in their support. US foreign policy for decades has tilted toward Israel and away from the Arabs due to the strong political influence of the American Jewish community as well as strong support from evangelical Christians in the Republican party.
Obama is the first US president raised in the Muslim faith. His father and stepfather were Muslims. He lived and was schooled in a Muslim nation during his early years. In his early adult life he was heavily influence spiritually by Jeremiah Wright who had been a Muslim. Whether or not he is currently a practicing Muslim, Obama clearly has strong sympathies for Muslims. As President, one of his first acts was to speak to the Muslim world. He has appointed radical Muslims to his administration.
Obama’s treatment of the prime minister of Israel during his recent visit to the White House was intentional. It communicated a lack of respect for the man and his country as well as signaled to the world symbolically an end to the special relationship with Israel. He is intentionally picking an unnecessary fight with Israel over the settlements. He is giving Islamic radicals a green light to attack Israel by signaling the US no longer supports the Jewish state.
With respect to the American Jewish community, Obama is telling them they are too small in numbers to matter at the ballot box. Furthermore, he has developed alternative sources of funding so even if the Jewish community stopped supporting him financially, he would have no problem funding his political campaigns and programs. Finally, Obama has set up the same dilemma for the Jewish community true conservatives have faced with the Republican establishment. Liberal Jews are unlikely to bolt the Democrat party over Israel because the Republican positions on social issues (gays, abortion, entitlement programs) are an anathema to them. Obama is counting on them to hold their nose and vote Democrat as the lesser of two evils in the same way the Republican party has told conservatives for years they are better than the alternative.
His bet is probably a good one. Other than Joe Lieberman, prominent Jews are largely silent on the shift in US policy, even with the shameful conduct of the President. Their statist goals must be taking precedence over any lingering emotional support for the Jewish state.
Obama is allowing Iran to develop nuclear weapons. He has maintained the US military presence in the Middle East, despite his campaign promises to immediately pull-out. No doubt the Saudi’s, who funded his campaign under the table, are pulling the strings on the maintenance of troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. The big question — When Iran gets nuclear weapons, will it use them on Israel, and if so will Obama do anything? Israel is a small country and it won’t take much to completely wipe it off the map. Somehow I can’t see this President using nuclear weapons on Iran or invading Iran if Israel is destroyed. The symbolism of this week’s meeting at the White House is too strong and the failure of the Jewish community to speak out suggests its influence is minimal in this White House.
On the other hand he just may be President for life.
My greatest fear has always been that this Man has no of intention of giving up his current position as dictator.
Only God can change his plans.
And to think the hit series 24 is canceled for lack of material.
Israels response to the UN should be the same as Iran’s response to the UN.
STFU-UN...
BUMP to your perceptive analysis.
Israels response to the UN should be the same as Irans response to the UN.
STFU-UN...
I wonder if the Israelis will at some point decide to take some direct action against Obama?Produce a copy of his real birth certificate, something worse?

"We are shocked and stunned at the Administration's tone and public dressing down of Israel on the issue of future building in Jerusalem," ADL director Abraham Foxman said in a statement. "We cannot remember an instance when such harsh language was directed at a friend and ally of the United States.
And against a former democrat socialist president:
