New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. made its last Tacoma truck for Toyota Corp. on Friday, idling about 1,000 workers and moving the West Coast's only auto plant closer to its scheduled Thursday shutdown.
Nummi opened in 1984 as a joint venture between General Motors and Toyota. After GM quit the partnership last summer, Toyota decided to close the plant.
Next week, another 3,700 rank-and-file employees represented by the United Auto Workers Union will lose their jobs when Nummi builds its last Toyota Corolla.
Departing Nummi workers will leave with severance packages from Toyota and aid from the federal Trade Adjustment Assistance program to help them buy heath insurance and train for new jobs.
Workers at about 20 supply firms closely tied to Nummi are also seeking this assistance, but their applications still await action at the Department of Labor.

I would not want to buy that particular truck.
People I know that bought one of the last New Stanton VW’s were not satisfied with the quality.
It seems intuitive as a sizable number of the workers in a facility that everyone knows is closing tend to care not so much. This is one of the reasons why the plant-closing notification laws are not very consumer friendly.

Actually, they’re much, much more than just “liberals”. They’re outright communists. And yes, they do destroy. I guess thats why they also love the muzzies so much. But there is a little twist of irony here. These workers are UAW and in California. I wonder who they all voted for? Bet all that hypehopey/changey stuff will really hit home now. Or maybe it was Toyota’s way of giving odongo the finger???
Boy I hope somebody publishes the VIN of that truck. I sure as heck wouldn’t want to buy it.

They can’t turn it into a giant mall like they did with the old Ford plant, and the amount of commercial real estate already sitting empty (including entire multistory buildings) in Silicon Valley for a number of years is staggering.
