You know what’s funny is that I’ve had $25 taken out (voluntarily) from my paycheck each month for long term care insurance. It’s been quite awhile since I’ve looked at it but I think the benefits are at least twice what the government version offers at a cost far, far higher.

And, yes, it was a wise choice for me to make getting it when I did for $25 bucks a month because I really didn’t quite take care of myself during my, uh, formative years :-)

I thought about that yesterday...today I’m thinking I’m going to bypass becoming Amish and look into becoming Australian instead...

Remember that vacation that we were planning to take, um... after we paid off the house, oh and paid cash for both kids to go to school, and then paid for the daughter’s wedding, and bought a few vehicles in there because we will need transportation, plus paying insurance premiums and buying the fun stuff like food and paying for frivolous things like water and electricity?

Yeah, well... on top of all of that, we’ll be shelling cash out for this long-term care deductible as well, so we may be able to go on vacation in 2030, if we pack a tent and stick within a thirty mile radius of home!

(Are you tired, yet?)

Do they think people won’t notice and won’t opt out?

Absolutely. If you were to run across a representative sample of the people in my rural county, you would not bother yourself to ask that question. Most people are so self-absorbed with their daily lives that they pay absolutely no attention to the world outside.

One of the only logical conclusions you can reach when considering it all. One of the few things standing in their way is that we, as a citizenry, are armed.

If the financial system is collapsed there will be no way to keep social cohesion intact.

Makes you wonder, huh?

Why are muslims exempt from obamacare?

Isn’t there something in the koran that it is OK for muslims to tax non-believers?

They want to label anyone not for big government a hated Republican...when that is far from the truth. The Tea Party is made up of all kinds. But if the media can portray and pigeon hole the movement into one of their stereotypes, they have already won and if things do spark out of control, they will have someone to blame besides themselves. The State owned media's real audience is always the global community. They need the global community to squash any dissent against big government.

Its “voluntary” but you have to opt out.

And that big pretty wooden horse outside the gates is really neat and should be brought inside the walls.

This is what chains look like.

Brought to mind Aretha Franklin's "Chain of Fools"

Most people where I am have no idea that a health care bill even existed much less know that it passed. People will see it and be like wtf... some will figure out how to get out of it but most people will be like this is bs and leave it at that and continue to pay it.

"Few more taxes like that I won’t be able to afford to work."

Well if you don't classify being an "artist" as "work", you will now have it made, per Pelosi. In an interview, she said people will now, because they no longer have to worry about health care costs, be able to become full-time artists, etc.

I bet it melts down in court before 2012. Too many states are in open revolt with legitimate cause.

I already *have* extended care insurance. And it does not not $200-250 a month. IIRC it also pays more than than $75/day, and the amount escalates with inflation.

But The One has "such a deal" for us.

And what about the money collected from individuals who don’t ever need long term care?

There will be more of that group (= more $$ -> govt) when the Death panels get going.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Betcha we are among the few that know of this.
I listen to talk radio all day while I work and of course there’s FR at night, and I had not heard of this menacing detail of DeathCare.

It’s on the radar now, thanks to you.
