I would like to coin a word for when the outcome of a law is the exact opposite of what was intended. Any suggestions?

By increasing employer personnel costs, this law will almost certainly result in more people losing their jobs and thus their employer provided health insurance!

Well, there is the old standby of "unintended consequences", but I guess you are looking for something more explicit. Probably "boomerang effect" says part of what you want to say, so that might be a starting point to think from. Maybe the "kick in the ass effect" or others that give some of the same connotations.

Is there a medical term for a treatment that gives the opposite of the desired effect?

How about the Lewinski Paradox, as in, Clinton signed the anti-sexual harassment law which was later used against him. Yeah, I know, the Clinton Paradox would be better, but why not rub their noses in it?. Hmmm, how about Clinton's Law of Unintended Consequences ... C.L.U.C?

Then again, how about the Anti-5th Amendment: "any law you sign will be be used against you? With this administration we could probably come up with a complete negative Bill of Rights!

These are inverse consequences (rather than just unintended consequences).

Maybe it’s a Wile E.Coyote plan?
