The Left is complaining about this March 23 cartoon by Protein Wisdom ... Thoughts? --from Jill Stanek
I’ll just stick with the original on this one.
Yeah. But when you look at old English Cartoons from the 1700s and 1800s, they were harsh too.
And the truth is there in the drawing.
Nailed it! Literally and figuratively. /art imitating life
“Rape” might be a bit much. America did, in fact, vote to let him put it in. But it’s definitely the political equivalent of “suprise buttsecks”.
Lady Liberty was first conceived in 1865 by a group of French scholars and statesman who were enjoying a dinner meal together in Glatigny, France. These men were ardent admirers of the American system, especially its Constitution. It was suggested that a gift be sent to the American people, by way of giving homage to that nation as well as marking its centennial celebration. There was however, an ulterior motive. The host of the evening, Professor Edourd de Laboulaye (you may recall that name if you've seen the movie sequel to "National Treasure"), was keen to get American backing for his political goal: the establishment of the Third Republic in France.
Thus, the purpose and meaning of the Statue was twofold: first to honor America, where the individual was sovereign, and secondly to mock the sovereigns of Europe, whose autocratic empires were fading even as they fought amongst themselves for dominance. In this light, America was viewed as exceptional; a place where liberty and opportunity were not only possible but realized, even as the Old World featured an increasingly bloody contest between autocrats on one hand and radical collectivists on the other.
After a century of revolution and world wars, where is Europe today? The empires are long gone, as are the autocracies. Their native populations are dwindling through abortion and childlessness, their governments are cob-webbed bureaucracies designed to enforce conformity, complacency and a studied lack of ambition among the people (Poland and perhaps the Czech Republic represent exceptions to the rule).
And now, Obama and the Democrats are trying to remake America in the European image, which is both a betrayal of our own values and a slap in the face to our remaining European admirers. Liberty as an ideal still stands, not just in New York Harbor, but in the hearts and minds of all who love her eternal values, and, I dare add, who will act in her defense when called upon to do so. I believe that time is coming.
Is it the truth though ?

‘The Republican V.P. nom would be “gang-raped by my big black brothers” if she enters Manhattan, Bernhard said. Palin is said to be making a campaign stop in New York next week.’
OK, so the “rape” of the Statue fits the back story even better.
