“And the failure to win Snowe’s support in Finance will raise questions about whether Baucus and Reid can win her support on the floor. Remember, Nelson has said he didn’t want to vote for an all-Democratic bill, and other moderates could be jittery without the bipartisan cover Snowe provides.”

Look considering Nelson’s and Stupak’s sell-outs (among many others), do you REALLY think anyone would have cared which way the she voted in COMMITTEE. It didn’t matter...the Democrats were NOT GOING TO LET HER STOP THE BILL. What is so difficult about that to understand?

“Senate committee rules that there must be at least ONE minority vote cast for a bill to come out of committee. Snowe was that vote.”

Then the committee vote would have been bypassed. After the Slaughter plan and everything else, they were NOT GOING TO LET HER STOP IT.

Even if they did need her vote and she wouldn’t have voted for it, they would have cheated and changed the rules to get it out of committee.

In the end it all comes down to what the voters will accept.

You forgot to factor in the shenanigans of ACORN and the great experience the Dems have in voter fraud. (remember the "created jobs" in districts that do not exist and the elections where more dem votes were cast than the number of eligible voters in that district.) We need observant and fearless poll watchers and election judges to stop this especially in the union soaked northeast.

Same in Michigan cities. Plenty of documented vote fraud in Detroit. In 04, police removed GOP observers from the building during the count.

Of course...what mattered is that we were so MAD AT BUSH (with justification, I might add), that we allowed the Dems to get the majorities they needed to ram it through this time...there was no way a measly Senator from Maine was going to stop this takeover.

......they suck up more from the public trough.....

Gosh, Mrs. Mel, I am shocked, shocked I tell you, by your cynicism. Our duly elected political leaders just want to help us little people. What they do, they do for love.

Conyers and his wife are merely a recent example.

Nothing recent about it. They have been crooks for many decades. The usual escape route for conyers Cohorts in Crime is a name change, a new passport issued by some West African hellhole, and a first-class ticket on Nigerian Airlines. Surprised Mama C. didn't take that route. Guess she felt whe needed to keep an eye on Mr. Conyers.

Snow’s vote was required to get the bill out of committee. It’s a requirement of the Senate that at least one member of the opposing party must vote with the majority to get a bill out of committee. She did it as a favor to the Dems. It’s the same reason Graham voted Sotomayor out of committee.

BINGO!

This is what happens with single party rule. What is more, should a brave Republican call for an ethics inquiry on the maneuver guess which party runs the ethics committee.

Ha. You don’t even begin to know the depths of my cynicism towards government, and that includes both “sides”. It’s matched only by my faith in Jesus Christ-in other words, boundless.

that resulted from the "progressive" takeover of intellectualism and the education establishment that required children's minds to be turned over to the State.

We must be the only state in the Union in which a family restaurant got its dishwasher elected governor, just to keep him from ruining the family business

Just makes you burst with pride, doesn't it?

What a long, shameful slide this state has taken - from Joshua Chamberlain to Baldacci. It's almost incomprehensible.

““Senate committee rules that there must be at least ONE minority vote cast for a bill to come out of committee. Snowe was that vote.””

If you take it one step more...suppose there had been a Democrat in her seat (or suppose she had voted for the bill on the floor) - then Lieberman would not have been able to stop the “Public Option” from being in the bill.

At least that was stopped, and because of that we have some amount of time (if we can win the elections) to reverse some (or most) of this bill...in other words, she did help.

Exactly. The RATS control the Senate Finance Committee by a 13-10 margin.

Snowe’s AYE vote in committee made the tally 14-9. The RATS didn’t need her vote and any information to the contrary is BS. Bills are moved out of committee on a partisan vote all the time.

If anyone wishes to argue that Snowe’s vote in committee gave the RATS a temporary patina of partisanship, fine. But to blame Snowe or any other Republican for BOcare is false, stupid, and malicious.

There is much to decry about RINOs in the Senate. This is not one of those occasions. McConnell and Boehner both did an exceptional job of keeping their caucus together in the face of immense hostility from the RATS and the MSM.

For her part, Snowe consistently said publicly that no social legislation of this magnitude should ever be enacted on a partisan basis. She also promised McConnell that she would NOT give Reid his 60th vote.

Another thing we have learned this year is that a RINO is infinitely better than a so-called “conservative” Democrat. Frankly, I’ve been surprised that we haven’t seen more essays on the treachory of both Nelson and Stupak - both traitors using the same game plan.

Not to quibble, but the Ethics Committee has three members from each party.

But I get your drift.

THANKS!! One does have to be on the lookout for people being malicious...there is a TOTAL of one Senator, that voted ONCE in committee for this takeover...and that vote didn’t count. People who try to misdirect our anger could well be malicious.

Socialists to the North. Socialists to the North-West. Socialists to the South. Socialists due West.

Steer 090 and don't stop until we hit Andorra? This state been going downhill ever since we sent our best and brightest off to that dratted War Between the States. Soon as we was all dead, the government forgot us.

Or was it when we let the first auto with Mass plates cross the border? OBTW, I didn't mean to pick on the governor. I understand that at least two of his appointees from away are neither queer nor communist, even if they dress funny.

Yeah, I’m sick of Snowe, but I’m even more sick of people treating the Commies like some force of nature or bunch of animals. They are responsible and if you hold them responsible, then people like Snowe won’t feel the pressure to join them.
