>>I’m a-gonna turn every light in the house on, just to do my part to make up for it!<<

They have LITTLE KIDS pushing this crap on some stations. It is as evil as the Nazi Youth for obama — singer and paramilitary troups.

I, too will turn on every light in the house, turn on the A/C and open the windows, then go down and fire up the car and turn ITS lights on— headlights and dome light (my employer pays for gas).

It’s more remarkable what they are not being taught: reality, in that having a civilized infrastructure whereby the lights are on when needed is a result of “people working together and making a difference.” Maybe they could learn more about say, North Korea and how they operate. What do you suppose someone without electricity is going to think about these folks?

I’m all for people learning how to do without, say by really going camping or something similar at home, to ponder how difficult everyday tasks can be - so as to more appreciate what they have, and take care of it, and not waste it. I wonder how many parents have thought about turning off the water heater for a couple days, if they own any teenagers. Just turning the lights off for an hour isn’t productive in that vein. How about turn off the furnace in January up north, so the kiddies can learn how pipes freeze and spew more cold water over everything?

Energy can’t be “saved” in this instance. That’s the reality the kiddies need to be taught. There must be base load (read constant) capability that can only be supplied by coal, nuclear, hydro, etc, in any meaningful practical way. I’m all for reducing the utility bill if necessary but that’s about it. As a country/society we need to build more power plants and improve the transmission infrastructure, not stunts like turning off the lights.
