Why I Wrote The 'Stupak Amendment' And Voted For Health-Care Reform

By Bart Stupak March 27, 2010

When I saw that Kathleen Parker's March 24 op-ed, "Stupak's original sin," defined me as a "backstabber," it reminded me of a Bible verse. Matthew 7:3 asks, "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?"

The true motives of many blogs and organizations claiming to be pro-life have become clear in recent days: to politicize life issues as a means to defeat health care reform. One group even sent an e-mail to supporters saying they are "working feverishly to stop this legislation from going forward."

The pro-life groups rallied behind me -- many without my knowledge or consent -- not necessarily because they shared my goals of ensuring protections for life and passing health-care reform but because they viewed me as their best chance to kill health-care legislation.

Last November, an amendment I introduced succeeded in making sure the House health-care-reform bill contained the current law prohibiting public funding for abortions. I was disappointed that the Senate could not pass my language and only mustered 45 pro-life votes, far short of the 60 votes needed to keep the amendment intact.

You wanted to be the face of this Bart: and you got it.

I’m sorry, you want to throw bible quotes at me? I think Jesus would have something to say about selling your principles in back room deals, bribes and not standing for what is right.

I think I can give the real answer without bothering to read his tripe. "Because I'm a corrupt, power-drunk baby killer."

But, in a world ruled by God, people like Stup(id)ak,
those who believe in abortion, and of course, homosexuality (-aka- anti-nature)
are *ahem*...'self-correcting'...
they are, er, NOT bred into non-existence!

Someone remind me, didn’t HolyO almost IMMEDIATELY rescind Bush’s stem cell research EO???

We have other names for HolyO’s so-called EO’s, Bartie—Charmin, Cottonelle, Scott, Angel Soft...

You lie, Bart.

You weren't "reminded" of that verse. That verse and John 8:7 are Rat Talking Points. Rats use them constantly. Whenver they think they are speaking to Christians, Rats quote those verses. And you, Bart, are a Rat.

All this is beside the point. He knows dang well that a statue trumps an executive order. The EO adds nothing to the language of the act with regard to abortion. The Act does not include the Hyde Amendment, or rather the Hyde Amendment does not cover the new law that is made here. In short, he is full of it.

"He whines because he knows he did wrong, if he truly believed in himself he would not go on an explanation tour."

I qualify your statement a little. He just thought he could get away with it. I suspect he is finding out that is not the case. He would not be trying to explain his actions unless he is being put under pressure by his constituents. He is just another low life politician.

If the people Stupak is attacking had really just wanted to politicize abortion and kill TerriSchiavoCare, they would not have promoted the Stupak Amendment! They would have denounced it on the grounds that it made TerriSchiavoCare more palatable.

I was against the Stupak Amendment for precisely that reason: It made an evil Communist bill a tiny bit less evil—in a manner that gave Catholics a fig leaf for their Communism.

Stupak in the end voted to FUND ABORTION—which is pure evil, and is not justified, or justifiable, by ANY “good” that the final bill contains, or could contain. If the rest of the bill were able to usher in The Millennium, voting to fund abortion would still be pure evil.

Stupak finally decided to DO EVIL. There’s no justification, or whining, that can change that.

Of all the loathesome traitors that sold our country down the river to tyranny this week, Stupak is truly scum-of-the-earth. I hope he never knows a moment of peace for the rest of his wretched life.
