Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger transferred $500,000 Friday from his ballot measure committee into the Yes on 14 campaign.

The measure would create a system where all candidates of all party affiliations run in one primary and the top two vote-getters advance to a general election. It has long had strong backing from Schwarzenegger, who says it is one of his top priorities on the ballot this year.

2 dems will always battle it out, the only difference is that one of them won’t have an (r) next to their name.

In a state with one party rule, this is a bad idea. I’ll never get to vote for someone who reflects my views in a general if we go to open primaries. Arnold is not the Arnold I knew.

That’s for sure! I was so happy when the SCOTUS approved our closed primary that I figured other states would jump on board not go the other way.

Pay $500,000 for an open ballot measure — that is obscene!

This is bizarre. Currently, we allow as many people in the general election as can get enough signatures by the filing deadline. This change would essentially be moving up the general election, eliminating the Primary, and instead always having a two-candidate run-off election in November. I can’t believe anyone would actually support that.

A law that may tell a party they’re not allowed to present a candidate in general elections? Fine, what could be wrong with that?
