I was based in a FOB three times while over there and never saw any of those except when it came time for me to fly back to the U.S. Those places are full of Fobbits trying to keep from being bored. Didn't see the need in them then and don't see the need in them now.

Didn't go to the sandbox (I was out by then) but it was the same way in Bosnia. I was in a FOB in the middle of nowhere with jack squat for amenities, but Eagle Base in Tuzla had a Burger King and a Pizza Hut.

Marines would be far too happy if they were eating belly bombs and Whoppers. If they were happy Marines they would be less inclined to kill bad guys. That would only prolong the war and expose other Marines to danger. Far better to have unhappy Marines.
