I was based in a FOB three times while over there and never saw any of those except when it came time for me to fly back to the U.S. Those places are full of Fobbits trying to keep from being bored. Didn't see the need in them then and don't see the need in them now.

Didn't go to the sandbox (I was out by then) but it was the same way in Bosnia. I was in a FOB in the middle of nowhere with jack squat for amenities, but Eagle Base in Tuzla had a Burger King and a Pizza Hut.

During Bosnia I was driving in and around Doboj and the muslim towns along the Bocinja river. Good times.

If the point of this is to free up logistics so we can send more to the guys in the field, then that's great.

If the purpose of this is to free up some money to give to ACORN, then I'll be pissed.

I'm guessing it's more likely to be the latter.
