General Belgrano formerly the USS Phoenix.
how many people died on the Pueblo incident? if i recall,..one,..while all aboard an intelligence gathering ship in DPRK claimed waters.
You see, Willard,...multiple deaths do not sit well with what Lincoln called the better demons of our nature. Every man has got a breaking point. You and I have. Kim has reached his. And very obviously, he has gone insane.
He’s out there operating out their in the world without any decent restraint, totally beyond the pale of any acceptable human conduct. And he is still alive, commanding troops.
When your sailors don’t come home in badly styled, grey leisure suits,..but instead in boxes,...on a newly declared day of mourning,,...something usually happens.
Exactly...The Kenyan is good at buttering up America's adversaries while insulting her allies.
Don’t let this crisis go to waste.
Correct. That's a good bar bet - ask someone what the last American-made naval ship was that was sunk in open sea. Most people pick the Korean War and the USS Sarsi. But, it's really the Belgrano.
The incident occurred around 9:45pm local time
Explosion occurred in the rear of the ship near ship's screw.
The ship started to sink from the rear.
Rescue ships and a flare-dropping planed were dispatched.
58 out of 104 sailors on board rescued so far.
National Police declared B-level alert on the area surrounding to Inchon and close to Yellow Sea, the area which can be impacted by development of this incident.
It is likely that these information is on time delay. According to the past pattern, they tend to sit on the report of incident and release announcement a few hours later. The information provided above could also be a few hours old in reality.
It is still early to determine the cause of the incident. Many suspect that N. Korea is behind this. However, they don't know how they did it, if NK is indeed responsible. Speculation ranges from torpedo attack from their submarine or torpedo boat, floating mines deployed by NK, Silkworm missile strike, and shore artillery fire. Some also raise the possibility that it was an accidental explosion of some munitions the ship carries.
Military is rather tight-lipped, and SK President convened the meeting of National Security Council.
Military is on alert and government officials at related agencies were called up and on emergency monitoring mode. They won't be able to go home tonight.
alerting to my update at reply #106.
Thanks to you both. It’s been a while, I’m gettin’ old and have consumed large quantities of narcotics since it all happened.(2 failed spinal surgeries)
“SK President convened the meeting of National Security Council.”
I’m sure that this is being done because they believe its NOT an accident.
Bump
I should point out that it remains to this day, the only unclassified sinking of another ship by a nuclear-powered submarine.
Rumors abound about other ships that may have been sunk during the "Cold War", but never acknowledged by the US.
Yes, the possibility that this is not an accident and NK is involved is too high to brush it aside as an unfortunate accident.
51st Fighter wing at Osan i bet are flexing and cracking their knuckles.
Thank you much, you are a FR treasure.
yep.. probable a False Flag attack to justify war with N.K. over their nuke threat.
South Korea should disarm and show NK that they mean them no harm.
“Some also raise the possibility that it was an accidental explosion of some munitions the ship carries.”
I know that when dealing with an incident like this, you can’t do the knee jerk reaction thing. Got to attempt to get confirmation again.
However, given the location of this “incident”, an accident would be just a little too coincidental
Thanks for the update. This is a hell of a mess.
