MESA, AZ -- The man who may run for governor still values his role as the "toughest sheriff in America."
"This Sheriff will continue to enforce the illegal immigration laws," Sheriff Joe Arpaio told a packed room of Mesa Community College students Thursday evening.
During his speech, he railed against the media and answered questions ranging from immigration to drugs.
Arpaio said he is not backing down on his roundups of illegal immigrants, despite the federal government's investigation of him in what some say is racial profiling.
He also took some jabs at Janet Napolitano.
"She didn't call me," said Arpaio. "If the Attorney General was here, I was hoping they would call me, so I could give them a little advice. Of course, why would they call me when they're investigating me, but that's another issue."
The Sheriff was addressing the Mesa Community College Republicans, who laughed at his jokes and jotted down questions for him to answer.
