WASHINGTON - Capping an epic struggle, Democrats completed the final touches Thursday to an historic fight for a nationwide health care overhaul; a process that ended with the the House approving Senate-cleared changes to the legislation the president signed into law Tuesday.
Republicans vowed to campaign for repeal in the fall election season, drawing a quick retort from Barack Obama: "I welcome that fight."
Earlier, the Senate voted 56-43 to approve the fixes, clearing the way for the House's final 220-207 confirmation vote later in the evening.

Majorities in both houses and it was an “epic struggle”?
Ain’t over yet, either.
Those ‘RATS are really kickin’ our American asses. What are we now? 0-10?
“Earlier, the Senate voted 56-43 to approve the fixes, clearing the way for the House’s final 220-207 confirmation vote later in the evening.”
So if the Senate vote was delayed, “the way” would not have been cleared. Nice to see the GOP kept its promise to propose “endless” amendments.
Endless for the GOP is getting out in time for happy hour.
Well at least on the Christmas Eve vote they they tried to... delay...ummm. Nope-they folded then as well.
It's a Democrat's dream bill...
“I welcome that fight.”
I wish he had said “bring it on” but now we gonna have to get all up in his face. Hope he don get all wee wee’d up when it happens.
I won’t link to that site to read the rest of the story.
Don’t you love the little flourishes of propaganda which pass for reporting these days...”epic struggle”, “historic fight”, “Dems victorious”, etc., ad nauseam.
The upstart Republicans, on the other hand, draw a “quick retort” from Dear Leader for daring to question the legislation.
Goebbels would have been impressed.
The only way they got it through is with the help of the Repubs. Maybe some backroom deals were made. Ones we don’t know about.
Bush threw away our majorities in Congress,
for nothing

Not at all. The Republicans were B.S.ing when they promised to delay H.R. 4872. The fact of the matter is debate is time-limited, per statute to only 24hrs. And, the "endless supply of amendments" was a bluster as well, because Biden can shoot those down, with a waive of a gavel. This is why Biden actually presided over the process today - something that Dick Cheney DID NOT do when the Republicans used Reconciliation to get the tax cuts passed in 2001.
The fact of the matter is, despite what the GOP threatened last week, there was NO WAY to slow down the Dummy machine once the H.R. 4872 was passed.
What I am curious about, and have yet to seen reported, is how many times did Biden overrule (if any) the Senate parliamentarian? And, how in the world did the Student Loan takeover make it through reconciliation?
Partial-birth abortion outlawed, and a Supreme Court that upheld it, along with a the sun-setting of the Assault Weapons Ban aren't "nothing".
With the liberal advocacy that takes place in the media today, it's amazing that Bush held on to the majorities for as long as he did. And, if he wouldn't have passed the Prescription Drug Act, he probably would have lost reelection as well has the Republican majorities in 2004. We forget too quickly how powerful a voting block the seniors are - they want their free crap.
Coming home for the holidays, Im sure they are looking forward to it. So are we!
Maybe, maybe not.
OK, think of it this way - Why would the Democrats cut any deals with an opposition that couldn't stop or even slow down their legislative initiative? There was nothing to "buy off", because the Republicans had NOTHING to offer.
