Why am I as a taxpayer responsible for replacing the property of someone who chooses to build or live in a flood area?

Because that is the way the feds developed the "insurance" program. A program that is administered by commercial insurance companies. For example, Allstate, State Farm, etc. issue the policies but NFIP/FEMA are the "insurer". And the commercial insurers receive a commission for handling the paperwork. Those same insurers, of course, would never provide the same kind of "flood insurance". Why not? Because it is bad business! There is now way to make money because if you properly underwrite the risks to cover those that are prone to flooding the rates are through the roof!

My home which was built in 1954 has now been put in the flood zone as of a year ago and I am forced to purchase the insurance since i Have a mortgage. Another sham by the FEDS
