Just as Obama and the Democrats prepare to foist Cap and Trade on an unwilling nation, crippling our already struggling economy, France -- that paragon of European social democracy -- offers an example of pragmatism. From Investor's Business Daily:
Prime Minister Francois Fillon has indicated that his government will abandon plans to introduce a domestic carbon tax.
"We have to amplify measures that help reinforce the competitiveness of our economy," Fillon told the Reuters news agency. But what about all those green jobs? What about saving planet Earth from imminent planetary doom? Sacre bleu!
France would have been the largest country to impose a carbon tax as part of its efforts to tackle alleged man-induced climate change. It still hopes for an EU-wide tax, which would hamper everybody's economy. Unlike here, France prefers not to lead by example, hoping others will follow.

France is becoming what we used to be and we are becoming what they were.
Exactly. Depressing isn’t it?
Parlevous France, ami??
I may have to move to France to be “free”..............
Maybe they really were from France..............
Pretty astounding that we have to look to Fwance to get tips on how to be a conservative nation again.
From the NY Times:
PARIS After months of political rancor and legal obstacles, the French government on Tuesday shelved its plan to introduce a tax on carbon emissions that had been a cornerstone of President Nicolas Sarkozys enviromental policy.
Ministers and members of the governing UMP party said the tax would put French companies at a disadvantage to their European neighbors, most of whom do not pay anything similar.
But analysts said the drubbing handed to the center-right government on Sunday in regional elections brought the U-turn from Mr. Sarkozy.
Sure is sad.. The Whole World has gone Mad.
It won’t last. The Euros are still a socialist people and they want their “free” stuff. Eventually, they will face their reality.
I know...it’s like a really bad “Freaky Friday” story.
It’s not surprising. They spent 2000 years as serfs and peasants, so I guess they kinda got used to it.................
We have a President who mocks republicans and patriotic citizens with the same vitriol Ahmadinejad had mocking President Bush.
“But analysts said the drubbing handed to the center-right government on Sunday in regional elections brought the U-turn from Mr. Sarkozy.”
That’s surprising given that his opponents are greens and socialists. So now they’re against carbon tax and the right was for it?
The world is upside down!
That makes it extremely unlikely that it will get established here.
The US really needs a real course towards independence instead of playing at being either France/England.
