If we were to once again recognize absolute state sovereignty and the fedgov were put back into its

then their enslavement policies wouldn’t affect us.
But, this is precisely why they would oppose such a solution.

We own a small 50’s type diner....I deal with people, like your co-worker everyday...most of them retired union workers....of course politics are discussed everyday...I tried to tell one guy the IRS will be hiring a bunch of goons to make sure we all buy it, and he would have none of it.....Unfortunately for me, I can’t ignore them, and some of our arguments get quite heated....I’d probably be fired if I worked somewhere else...
I never really thought or wanted this before, but there is NO other way around this. It is inevitable, so why not do it now?
I am sure they are as sick of us as we are of them so why keep this charade going?

I've talked with leftists like this, that just refuse to acknowledge the nasty truth about "their guys'" policies.
Leftists always demand that someone else, ie, the government, do their dirty work for them.

Whenever you hear that there is excessive greed, or think that yourself, you are being mislead. Of course there is greed. Why is it greedy for a doctor to want to be paid or a taxpayer to want to keep his own money but not greedy for the free-loader to expect free goods and services? And why is there greed now but not when you were a kid?
The answer to your question has been well documented. Two things, third-party payers (insurance, medicare etc.) and changes in the law since WWII.
It started during the price controls of WWII. That's when companies added health insurance as an employment benefit because they were forbidden to raise your salary. But it was a deductible business expense for them but if you purchased it the insurance was paid for with after tax money. So insurance has become associated with your employer and is not transferable to the new employer. Thus, all the whining about "pre-existing conditions." If the insurance was yours and tax deduct able and transferable and you could shop around and you could tailor an inexpensive policy, such as a "health savings account" or HSA, then insurance would be a lot cheaper and the free market would drive down prices as it did when you were a kid. The damage third party payers do is illustrated by the price increases (due to increased demand) that happened after Medicare and Medicaid were passed.
Once upon a time it was recognized that some events were "acts of God." In other words, no body's fault. You know, like a sinkhole under your house or a birth defect. There was also a "reasonable man" standard that said if a doctor or a contractor did the normal, correct things, he wasn't responsible for a bad outcome.
But the law changed to a "deep pockets" standard that means anyone can be sued no matter how careful they were and even if they win they could be bankrupt. So many more of our activities have to be insured for much, much higher premiums to protect us from the constant threat of lawsuits coming out of nowhere for no reason.
Changing just these two things, third party payers and tort reform, would allow the free market to drive down costs and still allow for innovation.

Yes, and unfortunately, enough voters benefit from the redistribution of wealth that they will never support anything that they see as reducing their gravy train.
That may be the “sheep” leftists’ motivation for wanting to keep us under the gov’t thumb,
but the elitists driving motivation is to control people,
and allowing a state to “do its own thing” would be anathema to them.

Thanks everybody who answered my question about expensive health costs. I am now wondering why tort reform has never taken place?
