You’d have to take it up with the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. Back in 1949, the chamber contracted with the Los Angeles Parks Department to repair and rebuild the sign, and the deal included a stipulation that L-A-N-D be removed to reflect Hollywood proper and not the former Hollywoodland housing development.
In due course, among the sign restorers was, of all people, Alice Cooper-—who paid to have one of the two O’s restored, dedicating it to the memory of Groucho Marx.
Alice is a conservative and golf nut.
