They have a fair number of these here at KAF. You can hear ‘em doing target practice gun runs every few weeks. Pretty cool plane.

your gone before you hear it.....*smiles*
The MD Air Nat Guard flies a bunch of these out of Martin Airport in Middle River. They fly past my house in their landing pattern, I see lots of them when they are training.

Yeah, it was a definite stop-what-you’re-doing, what-the-hell-was-that? kind of sound. As a former Infantryman, though, I love that plane by default. During my Iraq tour, my company was in the Battle of Najaf, and A-10s were making strafing/bombing runs all night, keeping my Soldiers safe.
...my first intro to the catling gun was in 1969 at Lowry AFB Colo. Heard that distinct errrrrrrrrr, and my first reaction was “WTF waz dat?”. *smiles*...a week or so later, we got introduced (M61...M61A1)
Needs to check facts . The bullets don’t fly in a laser-like stream, but sort of spray in a lethal mist,A-10 cannons are tilted down so that the pilot can fly level while strafing. both FALSE

I was in a Army air defense unit. We had towed, 20mm Vulcans. We would set up in woods and go practice against Hogs, and them against us. They stayed really low, and hid. The thing was if there were two, you couldn’t tell were they were as the fan jet sound kind of sound like everywhere. After a bit they would pop up and roll over on you. I doubt it was more than a four count, often not enough time to swing the gun around.
A-10s are the best. It’s a waste of airframes to have F-ighters being worn out. If I was President, I’d give the A-10’s over to the Army. If the Marines can have CAS, so to the Army.
AH! Malfunction Junction. Did they tell you not to blink while they shot off 25 rounds? Saw the M39A1 20mm cannon too (single Barrel) which I ended up with on the F-100D.
