I knew David Goodstein 30 years ago when he was still in the Physics department at CalTech. He is by no means stupid. But he is that ideological, and his ideology has blinded him. If the current climate fraud were limited to the arcane ramblings of various climatologists, its discovery would be a long time in coming, and not many people would care when/if it ever came to light; it might make a chapter in one of Goodstein's largely unheard-of books, for example. The real fraud in this case is not in published works at all -- but in the attempt to transform these exaggerated and bogus results into expensive public policy prescriptions.

I really lament that we don’t have a Feynman around. I really thing he would be horrified by what has gone on in this area, and at the damage this has done to science and the public perception thereof.
