New York Senate Race Potentially Hot; Gov Race Not So Much
Real Clear Politics ^ | March 23, 2010

Posted on 03/23/2010 7:49:48 PM PDT by Clintonfatigued

There's a possibility of at least one exciting race in the Empire State this fall. If former Governor George Pataki were to get in the Senate race against appointee Kirsten Gillibrand, New York-based pollster Siena tells us that he would currently lead her by a 45%-39% margin.

Normally we would see that as atrocious polling numbers for Gillibrand, but let's remember that she is not your usual incumbent and Pataki is not your usual challenger. Her 32-29 fav/unfav number is tepid, but a full 39% of the electorate doesn't have an opinion. Pataki, a three-term Governor, has a 56-33 fav/unfav spread, with only 10% without an opinion. Unlike most matchups, the incumbent here probably has more room for growth than the challenger.

The filing deadline isn't until July, so Pataki has plenty of time to make up his mind (Siena also tested former Port Authority Commissioner Bruce Blakeman; Gillibrand leads him by a 48%-24% margin in the poll).

Haven’t followed this all that closely, but I thought Pataki had already said no to this. I’d love to see him run, though.

IMHO, Cuomo is much more vulnerable than his poll numbers would indicate. However, we need to do better than Loozio or the Rat from LI running as a Republican.

Rudy said no. Pataki’s been coy about it.

Romney wants to be President, Pataki is eyeing the Senate. That's pretty significant.

To hell with that. This is a primary. Lazio is a complete loser. If he’s the best we can pick, the general is as good as lost. I don’t even think he could beat Patterson.

The NY Democrat party has completely fallen apart. Unfortunately, the only party in worse shape is the NY Republican party.

Yup -

NYC layoffs - bigtime

Pataki is better than a dem

Those who do not comprehend New England/Northeast numbers or who stayed home in 2006 and 2008 -

Gave us Pelosi and Reid and Obama

Let them go campaign and vote for Ross Perot or his clone-type

They can all meet in a phone booth

Can’t imagine that many layoffs, especially in Police force, firemen, etc. The city will be in chaos!

Your phone booth comment was funny.

Yay!!!! Someone who gets it. I had despaired of ever seeing that again here on FR.

Lol, I’m too far south, never have made any animations of those ‘New Yorkers’ except for Rudy and he’s long gone now.

The Libertarian Party or Conservative Party cannot elect a majority on a small Town Council

Strictly a dumb ego trip!

Many Libertarians/libertarians seem to like firearms - to guard the pot they grown and/or sell! (lots on FR too!)

My big vintage 7-1/2” Colt .44-40 SAA is for drilling really large holes in creeps!

(President Perot sure was a great leader!)

NYC and NY state caused their own problemos - just like California has done

Both states dominated by crazy lefties!

The Scrap Schumer movement is just getting started.

It's following the successful blueprint of the Dump Dodd campaign in Connecticut.

If only a good conservative candidate would emerge, Schumer would be toast.

Check out SCRAP SCHUMER

So many of FR that talk a big game but finish 2nd-20th like #88 or #24 in NASCAR

Both have lost the drive and the kiddies are running hot up front

Pragmatism wins

Those that constantly demand everything on the menu - end up eventually staying home and griping while watching the Commie/Millionaires in Congress take over the USA

The Republican party could learn a lot from winning NASCAR teams and the Tea Party folks

McCain and Graham are never on the pole

They just cause wrecks and confusion

In NASCAR they would lose their ride and finally go back home

As bad as Arnie has done - can you imagine if he had lost - and the Mexican Obama had won?
