I'm sure that this has been posted before, but the time seems approproate for a revival. The date of the original - 1952, one year younger than I am! - illustrates that that there were those among us who saw our present day coming from a long way back. Secession - and/or a rigorous and muscular application of states' rights would go a long way towards setting matters right.
I fully expect that this will be the fault line for the precipitation of the next American civil war.

Not yet. If healthcare stands and they push through amnesty then maybe.

I jokingly said we should kick Minnesota out of the Union if they elected that buck-toothed, unfunny a**clown Al Frankenfart. Hmmmmm...a lot of possibilities there.

Secession movements will gather steam. It may happen.
Secession from the Union in favor of a new nation is fine. We would adopt the exact same Constitution, the first 15 amendments, the 19th amendment, and few of the other sensible ones.
All prior legislation and judicial reviews would be abolished.

Just don’t bombard any forts on your way out. That didn’t work out so well for you last time.
To: wku man
The correct and formal statement is.....
Minnesota must be purged from the Union.

What’s the breaking point?
I think amnesty and/or shutting down conservative media.

The states should say you can only tax our citizens for defense..and few other thing...The state collects the money and sends it to the feds.. why do we send money to the feds?? they skim 20% and then demand we pay for other crap like welfare ect..let each state spend what they want ..if you pay people nothing for not working they may get a job..We need to return to 1880..they had very little money to spend...

Winter is over, & the author can come out of hibernation now: The
FREE STATE PROJECT has been working in this issue in New Hampshire for quite a while, & I hope that their goals will be reached as Obama continues to "nudge" us into socialism.

“...not secession from the Union, but secession from Washington.”
I think strictly speaking that would not be secession. It should be the States requiring the entity they created —The National Government— to stay within it’s bounds.

It’s not going to happen because 60 percent of Americans take hand outs in one form or another from the Feds. With Obama it is going to go to about 70 percent. Why bite the hand that feeds you?
To: Jack Hydrazine
Social Security in many cases is not a hand out as the people getting it paid into the fund for years and years. But your point is a good one and it will be the hardest issue to tackle.
To: KrisKrinkle
Fight them on the beaches...fight them on the landing zones..just as Churchill said in 1940. That is the stance we should take.
Don’t let this stand.

If the States want to get together and fight this they can. Let 2/3 of them pass a resolution calling for a Constitutional Convention and Congress must set a time and place for it. That's 34 states, which might just fly after this.
