Ken Salazar: Water a 'ticking time bomb' for California
Los Angeles Times ^ | March 22, 2010 | Times Editors

Ken Salazar: Nothing is easy. I mean, the votes you saw yesterday on healthcare show how difficult it is to get things done in Washington these days. So we don't underestimate the kind of challenge that we have, but the president has been very clear from the first day -- which I have been a part of his team helping pull this together -- is we need to address energy and climate change and do it in a comprehensive manner.

What’s needed is drastic (political) climate change in Washington, DC beginning in November of this year.

Desalination. The word did not appear in the article, so I thought I’d add it.

Desalinization requires lots of energy. Nuclear power would help..otherwise we will need a lot more power lines running into CA. Those lines are opposed by the leftist as well.

The problem is NOT water! We have plenty. The problem is the enviro lobby that is placing a 3 inch bait fish above the people in order of priority.

Haven’t you heard? Nuclear power is much better for the environment now, no carbon footprint! LOL!

We are sending 700 billion to $1 trillion overseas for the oil that we're buying. It creates an economic dislocation as we transfer all this wealth from America to those places.

Great. So, how exactly does taxing coal and natural gas reduce this amount?

It doesn't.

And how exactly does building solar farms reduce this amount?

It doesn't.

In fact, how does taxing oil reduce this amount if you tax domestic oil the same as foreign oil?

It doesn't. And if you tax foreign oil and you aren't allowed to increase your domestic drilling, how does that reduce your imporation of foreign fuel?

It depresses the economy, so you have less commerce, fewer people working, and less demand for fuel.

Great. That'll work.
