I encourage police to stop lying about not resisting. Gary Kleck showed about 20 years ago that resistance with a firearm was the best way to avoid injury in an assault or an armed robbery.

The police don't want people thinking about resisting crime on their own, because then the people might get the (correct) idea that we don't need so many fat donut gobbling police thugs sucking on the public taxpayer funded teat.

Yet another result of having too many lawyers. Law enforcement HAS to say this. If they advise people to be armed and/or defend themselves, they'd be swimming in suits (no pun in tended) from people who bought a gun but never bothered to learn how to use it.

Were this a common problem that appeared on news broadcasts, I’d expect them to tell people not to punch back, too. Advising people to do something that, if they are poorly trained, is likely to get them injured or killed is a sure way for law enforcement to be sued.
