When confronted by a robber, police encourage store clerks to comply with demands for money or items. Still, an isolated number of liquor store and minimart employees take other steps to protect themselves.
....
"The best thing they can do is give the robber the cash or items they demand," Nelson said. "But they can also be a very good witness. We tell them to calm down and remember descriptive information like moles or tattoos and describe the direction of travel when (robbers) leave."

If you look carefully at the trends of the UK you will see that the USA follows them sooner or later.

Sorry, we will always have guns in our culture. The Founding Fathers were prescient to see what happens when citizens cannot defend themselves.

police encourage store clerks to comply with demands for money or itemsI encourage police to stop lying about not resisting. Gary Kleck showed about 20 years ago that resistance with a firearm was the best way to avoid injury in an assault or an armed robbery.
The police don't want people thinking about resisting crime on their own, because then the people might get the (correct) idea that we don't need so many fat donut gobbling police thugs sucking on the public taxpayer funded teat.

That is the reason for purging the loyalist north eastern states from the union. We will have no America so long as they are a part.

Laughable advice from the cops.
But then again, the average citizen in the U.S. has an increasingly depressed intelligence level and perhaps they need advice on common sense these days.

"But they can also be a very good witness. Yet another result of having too many lawyers. Law enforcement HAS to say this. If they advise people to be armed and/or defend themselves, they'd be swimming in suits (no pun in tended) from people who bought a gun but never bothered to learn how to use it.

He looks just like the dead guy on the floor over there. Now that is funny.
To: FourPeas
Nonsense.
Imagine if they were to advise people not to punch back if someone comes up to them on the street and clocks them in the nose. That would be immoral, not to mention ludicrous. How is this any different?
Force should always be met with equal force.

No thanks. It's a brave new world and the current crop of criminals grew up playing Doom. They will shoot you just to see how it feels.
I'm packing and going down fighting.

Were this a common problem that appeared on news broadcasts, I’d expect them to tell people not to punch back, too. Advising people to do something that, if they are poorly trained, is likely to get them injured or killed is a sure way for law enforcement to be sued.

Cops are sissies. When the shooting starts they hide behind their cop cars while children are murdered. So much for cops being “professional” gun handlers.

"The best thing they can do is give the robber the cash or items they demand," We're in pretty bad shape when the thugs AND the police are offering the same advise.
