Contrary to what you may have been told, we were founded as a Constitutional Republic. The precise reason that we have an electorate and "representatives" (I use the term loosely) is to prevent pure democracy, known to many as "mob rule." There's a good example using a sheep and some wolves to clarify the difference between the two. When the masses are given wholesale power to vote themselves anything they like, we end up like the Greek republics-turned-democracies and Roman Empire: sacked and gone! Sunday night commenced with the open sacking; it has been going on for decades.
The electorate and our representatives, though it may seem unethical to many, are not compelled by the Constitution to vote per their constituents. However, wise representatives have historically used their own judgment and sense to vote in the best interests of and in keeping with the spirit of their constituencies. We now have a bunch of self-serving looters who think it is a game.
There are many here and elsewhere, including a bunch of attorneys general who would argue that the last election was won "fair and square."
You may want to revisit a good, word by word, thoughtful perusal of the Declaration of Independence, which is part of our laws, and he Constitution of the United States of America. You may further wish to revisit the Founders' own writings for clarification on their intents.
Talk of rectifying the greivous errors in judgment perpetrated by our congress, courts, our executive leadership, and the myriad levels of federal employees between them and us is not treasonous; it is highly patriotic.
