They could but what is getting totally out of hand is the bending backwards for a minority view.
Two lesbians control the fate of their graduation prom in their hands.
Why will the majority continue to be the ones conceding all the time?

And that’s the box they have painted themselves - and music students and educators - into. Much of the standard rep, the accepted music curriculum, is either overtly religious or has some religious allusion. Some great works use religious texts but were not intended for religious services (Brahms Requiem). This applies to both choral and instrumental music.

If music with even the slightest hint of a religious subject is banned from a graduation then what about music prepared for school concerts and contests? I guess that they will now purge school music libraries from this offensive material.

Guess I must have misunderstood the “Tolerance and Diversity” sessions during teacher inservice....

I recall learning it was traditional and proper to rise during the Hallelujah Chorus. Public school, public teacher.

Religion is bad in this case. But when Madame Pelosi talks about her plea to St Joseph, and welcomes the support of Catholic nuns for her travesty of a bill, then religion mixing with government is a good and desirable thing.

You are right. What is the solution? Our side doesn’t get results by screaming in the streets as evidenced by the health care vote. We protested. We called our representatives. We lost. Perhaps giving the students a choice of a public limited graduation ceremony or a private open ceremony would send a message.

When I was in HS and college, we used to sing things like “I believe in one God...” , “Crucifixus”, “Of the Father’s Love Begotten”, Negro spirituals and all other manner of “religious” songs and this was public school and university. Now they can’t even play the notes???? Good grief.

Ironically in the Disney cartoon classic Fantasia after a night of horror with devils and demons orchestrated with Night on Bald Mountain the rising of the sun and bringing of light to the world is done to sounds of Ave Maria.

IMO, the “separation of church and state” thing is one of the reasons I’d like to start over with a new constitution or a new nation. This and a few other SCOTUS precedents over the years have led us to the godless society we now have, which has then led to far more ills.

What if they played “God Bless America”? Is that a religious or patriotic song?

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
