Yes, we did. Finally, President Obama can use those words. The passage of health care reform provided the first piece of incontestable evidence that Washington has changed.
Congress is, indeed, capable of carrying through fundamental social reform. No longer will the United States be the outlier among wealthy nations in leaving so many of its citizens without basic health coverage.
In approving the most sweeping piece of social legislation since the mid-1960s, Democrats proved that they can govern, even under challenging circumstances and in the face of significant internal divisions.
To understand how large a victory this is, consider what defeat would have meant. In light of the president's decision to gamble all of his standing to get this bill passed, its failure would have crippled his presidency. The Democratic Congress would have become a laughingstock, incapable of winning on an issue that has been central to its identity since the days of Harry Truman.
This is why Republicans decided to put everything they had into an effort to defeat the measure. They said its passage would hurt the Democrats in November's elections. They knew that its failure would have haunted Democrats for decades.

They proved they can govern by having secret meetings to write bills, they can govern by buying vote with bribes and bkackmail, They can govern by tossing the Constitution in the trash. They can govern by lying to the American people.

I don’t think amnesty is going to be as easy to get. People are on their toes now. We were pretty much blindsided with socialized health care because we didn’t think anyone would be so dishonest. We thought the American government system would work in the end. We didn’t think a governing body could be so blatantly criminal. Now we know they are capable of anything. And your rank and file Americans are aware now and they are very strongly against amnesty. We stopped amnesty once when the sitting president was strongly supporting it. I just don’t think they can walk over the American people so easy again. Each overreach they try will be harder and harder to get. Thats just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions.
If the current definition of “to govern” includes the ability to compel citizens of a sovereign Republic to purchase services they do not desire to procure, then such governance is a species of tyranny and I, as a free man, refuse.
