This story on the First Lady taking the kids to a Broadway show in New York has an interesting element: a warning by the Secret Service that anyone taking their picture would have their cameras confiscated. Perhaps the Secret Service General Counsel could point us to where in the Constitution and federal law the Secret Service has the authority to ban photographs by the public and the confiscation of cellphones and pictures to enforce the ban.
Michelle Obama with Sasha, 8, and Malia, 11, and about a dozen other people in tow attended the matinee performance of Memphis Sunday. After the block was cordoned off, the large group entered the theater. Secret Service members did not like all of the pictures being taken that issued the warning. If the First Family wishes to avoid pictures, they may want to watch the play on video rather than confiscating cellphones and cameras of citizens. I find it outrageous that the Secret Service would consider it within its authority to confiscate phones to avoid annoyance to the First Family. The Secret Service at times seems to view itself as a Praetorian Guard rather than a public law enforcement agency.

Guilty
These leftist thugs will be confiscating a hell of a lot more than cameras over the next couple of years.
They do not need any authority!
We have a non-citizen in the oval office who thinks the US Constitution is a flawed document even though he took an oath to support it.
He has people in his administration who are lovers of Chairman Mao and believe that power comes from the barrel of a gun so you can see they don’t need a Constitution getting in the way of the JBTs.
This is just the beginning.
LOL, you beat me to the obvious.
The real issue is not that photo’s. But that they are afraid someone will have a weapon fashioned like a cellphone. If they do not allow photo’s with cell phones, they protect the Obozo.
Gentlemen, it is time for RecordsGate to happen. His past cannot hide forever. He has sufficiently injured and offended enough powerful people that it could be time for his past to surface. The fix-was-in before the election, but some of the injured parties may be ready to expose him. Not holding my breath, but it could happen.
Assuming this story is accurate, I doubt the secret service really wants to deal with tourists taking photos — clearly Obozo is behind this — or Meeshell — maybe they are tired of all those UNflattering photos of her, in particular, showing up all over the place!
But why do they always have to be out and about? And far from the WH to boot? Are there no theatrical performances in DC and environs? Why do they need to go to NYC on a Sunday when tourists are out with their cameras?
FUBO !
DON’T GO OUT!!!! There problem solved.
Any peasant that stares at the emperor will be put to death. Prostrate yourselves before the deity and do not look up.
The Royal Family decides what the law is. The Constitution was burned, last night.
Here's a clue, Michelle. If you don't want pics taken of your kids in public, don't take them out in public.
Gotta wonder what's wrong with these kids that they don't want pictures taken of them.
Or are they afraid that people will "photoshop" the pics the same way pics of Sarah Palin's kids were photoshopped?
Libs can dish it out, but they can't take it.
Bull crap. Their job is to protect the Constitution.
You know, the type capable of photographing mee-chelles HUMONGOUS ASS.
Good post. Turley is the real deal, lefty or not.
I am getting tired of pundits citing the Constitution. After yesterday it’s more than a little trite.
From my cold, dead hands.
Okay, someone has to say it. Why would anyone want to take a picture of the first family?
They know we put them on FR for laughs!
