MIRANSHAH: A US drone aircraft fired two missiles into an al Qaeda and Taliban hideout in North Waziristan on Sunday, killing eight terrorists, Pakistani intelligence officials said.
Two other security officials and an intelligence official confirmed the drone strike and the death toll in the Inzar village of the North Waziristan tribal district.
The identity of the militants killed in the Lowari Mandi area of the North Waziristan tribal region is not known.
The targeted compound belongs to a relative of a Taliban commander, the official said, adding that the Taliban had not yet begun rescue activities as US drones were still flying above the site. Taliban have not started removing bodies yet, he said.
The US has stepped up attempts to kill leading Taliban in North Waziristan since a suicide bombing at a fortified US base across the border in the Afghan province of Khost killed seven CIA employees last December.
US officials last week said they believed Hussein al-Yemeni, a top al Qaeda planner who Washington believes helped to organise the Khost bombing, had been killed in a drone strike in North Waziristan this month.
Pakistan officially opposes US drone strikes and says the civilian casualties they frequently cause undermine its own efforts against the Taliban. Instead, it wants the US to give it drone technology so it can carry out its own strikes. agencies
Can the Tea Party buy one of these Drones?
It’s all fun and games, until this tech is used by a dictatorial socialist govt here in CONUS to hunt down uppity patriots who won’t conform to national socialism.
Do they fire a missle containing Miranda rights leaflets first? Just wondering.
