Record 71% disapprove of governor, poll shows { Schwarzenegger won't be back!}

More Californians disapprove of the job performance of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger than any governor in modern state history including Gray Davis, who was ousted by Schwarzenegger in a popular uprising, according to a Field Poll released today.

Seventy-one percent of California voters surveyed said they disapprove of Schwarzenegger's handling of the job, while 23 percent approve. The low ratings are shared across all demographics including party affiliation, region of the state, age and race or ethnicity.

"Schwarzenegger still has a persona that appeals to people, but the real problem is he's presiding over a terrible time in California history and he doesn't seem to have made it any better," said Field Poll Director Mark DiCamillo.

The governor's numbers are nearly identical to those of Davis in the run-up to the recall. In August 2003, 70 percent of California disapproved of how Davis did the job while 22 percent approved.

Schwarzenegger's low rating is driven by the severe economic downturn, DiCamillo said, while Davis touted his experience and competence when he ran for office only to be undermined by the energy crisis.

Anger over joblessness

Aaron McLear, a spokesman for Schwarzenegger, said people are upset about the state's high unemployment rate, a dysfunctional budget system and "a state employee pension system that is crushing the rest of state government."

The only thing that Schwarzenegger did wrong was constantly caving in to the Democrats. Why don’t those people disapprove of their legislators?

It is too bad he did not stand his ground. He caved to the looney left that is taking Taxifornia into the swamp. He could have made a difference, by providing leadership and showing the kool-aid drinkers what the libs have done, and are doing, to what is left of Taxifornia.

Once the leading state in the union, in all respects, it now sits at, or near, the bottom in most state categories. And the malfeasant libs just want to keep spending and taxing and regulating. And Taxifornia burns.

Arnold’s poll numbers are a harbinger for most liberals’ re-election prospects in 2010.

95% of ‘em have no idea who their legislooter is. The blacks vote for blacks. The latinos vote for latinos. Because he was a celebrity is the only reason they know who Arnold is.

And he could have vetoed the idiotic ammo bill he signed into law. The dems didn’t have the votes to override it. That’s just one thing I have against the guy, but all the others are similar. If he had shown some guts and stood his ground he could have stopped a lot of the crap that is happening in this state right now.

Just a RINO doing what he intended to do: hurt Republicans and empower Democrats.

Not to be seen IN ANY WAY as a defense of Arnold, but the citizens of the state of California are nuts. California has problems that can't be fixed until the California legislature is replaced. Schwarzenegger, for all his idiocy, did try to address some of the most pressing issues, early on in his tenure. While he gave up way to easily, it was clear that the demcocrat special interests weren't going to have any of the necessary reforms.

Of course, after only a few months on the job, Arnold exacerbated the financial woes with the idiotic stem cell research initiatives and the even more ridiculous carbon emissions regulations.

But, that's not why people hate him. People hate them because their gravy-train is coming to a screeching (and bankrupted halt), and they think Arnold's the reason why.

The people of the state of California have voted for ballot initiatives and politicians that have set the conditions for misery that is present now. Until such a time that the people embrace real, substantive reform - almost all of which will be completely unacceptable to the powerful CA unions - California's economy will continue to worsen.

Californians are the problem, not their governor.

Nice accomplishment, Schwarzenegger.

Something to think about during your retirement.

The average Californian is fine with tax increases and service cut, just as long as its somebody else’s taxes being raised or services being cut.

Schwarzenegger has totally destroyed the state of California. The biggest problem for Californians is they see him as a Republican and he created the mess. They will put some Democrat in and totally kill what’s left of the state.

Arnold is not the problem in California, the people of California are the problem. I have seen nothing to indicate that they are even remotely aware of the depth of problems facing their state. Nevermind that they are at the point of doing something about it. California is broken. God willing, a leader like the NJ governor will arise and start fixing the place.

Better a Democrat, so they get the blame than a Moderate Republican(RINO) like Whitman, that will just paper over the problem instead of doing the Slash and Burn cutting and tax relief, and cut-off of services to Illegals that needs to be done to solve the problem.

Well, he probably does not want to be back, either...another chance to make better decisions comes around again. With Marxism, corporatism, statism, and debt-based federalism at the fore, are there candidates not in these arenas?

Telephone survey conducted in English and in Spanish. That's problem #1, right there. Until you fix that problem, everything else is moot.

That's right. So long as the Dems have a firm grasp on the Statehouse. There is no fix for California. Why do people want a Republican at the helm of state that is soon going to be doing its best impression of the Titanic?
