Stupak still a Firm 'NO'
Washington Examiner ^ | 03/21/10 1:27 PM EDT | Susan Ferrechio

Despite reports on MSNBC that pro-life Democrat Bart Stupak, D-Mich., will vote for the bill, he remains a "no" vote.

I just talked to Stupak in the basement of the Capitol as he walked passed a throng of protesters calling for members to vote against the bill.

"I'm still a no vote. There is no final agreement." Stupak said.

Stupak and other pro-life Democrats are in negotiations with the White House on a deal that would involve President Obama signing some kind of executive order that would ban federal funding of abortion under the health care bill.

"We are waiting until we have an agreement with not just the White House but also the Speaker and others," Stupak said. "There is no agreement. It's still a work in progress. I think we have work to do. "

The problem here is if Stupak and his gang get the language they want on an executive order, some of the pro abortion folks will be pissed off big time. There is not way they can appease both sides.

If they had the votes they’d be voting within the hour. Tweeting is NOT VOTING in the chamber. It’s dishonest horse hockey by the nutroots.

Oh - the pro deathers are voting for this regardless of any deal Barry, Pelosi and stupak make. Any deal will be undone once this crap passes.

If the bill is going to pass anyway, I hope they all flip and smash the myth of “Moderate” or “Pro-life” Democrats forever. They really don’t exist except for brief periods at election time.

Not according to CNN. Stupak is on the brink of voting YES.

He believes the White House lawyers.

feminazis won’t blow up the bill.

Then why is Pelosi making no final agreement with Stupak?

Don't be too sure. These ladies are dead set on their stance. If they know funding is definitely to be revoked they will not vote for this thing.

"Executive Orders are used to declare, “When the Sun Crosses The Equator” Day. Not for something as serious as an unborn child’s life."

Not true at all. While this particular Executive Order is, from a practical standpoint, worthless. Other orders do have the full force of law. Witness George Bush's EO stopping federal funding of embryonic stem cells.

Executive Orders can be issued that creat a "law by fiat", so long as they don't countervail existing legislation, and so long as they don't undermine the Constitution, or if the Congress has previously ceded the authority to the President.

The biggest reason that this particular EO isn't worth much, is because it says on its face, that it allows for federal government subsidies to pay for private health-care premiums on plans that do cover elective abortions, and it allows for federal funds to go to state health-care plans that cover elective abortions. That is a LOT of people under a LOT of plans.

I wish somebody had his cell phone.

I am sure all the newspapers in the area do....we have all sorts of numbers for our federal representatives.

But, somebody needs to get through to him directly and ask him if he trusts something as flimsy as an EO.

I’ve seen this before, and an agreement WILL be reached.

There is no way Pelosi won’t let this pass, no matter what it takes.

I just HOPE MAYBE it will tick off some of the pro-choice Dems enough to vote no themselves.

The pro-death 40 may not like the Speaker making the deal with Stupak.

That's a bluff. They have to live with the Hyde Amendment now.

No doubt they would like both government control of health care and overturning the Hyde Amendment.

They will not jeopardize getting government control of health care. And anyway they will get taxpayer-funded abortions as well because an executive order on this topic would exceed presidential authority and would be nearly meaningless.

"I think we have work to do."

So, essentially, he WANTS to pass this which is why I think he'll eventually cave.

Liberty is dead only when the rest of us give up on it. If we lose this battle, the war isn’t over. World War II wasn’t over on Dec. 7th, 1941. Nor was it over on 6-4-1942. Or 6-6-1944. It was over when it was over.

The liberals may have started this fight, but we will finish it. The next major battle is in November.

However, The war to preserve liberty is endless.

Not according to CNN

CNN is going to bray that Stupak is yes or leaning yes all day regardless.

They are trying to keep the momentum going for any unsure members.

If Stupak changes his vote from a “No” to a “Yes” then it’s game, set and match.

Iran does things like this while it’s majority of people protest in the streets.

Obama never insisted on a recount for the Iranian people. Why? Because Obama is the same animal.
