No, it's actual financial slavery. The average citizen pays almost 50% of his annual income on taxes. The plantation slave in the pre-war South had only about 10% of his lifetime produce expropriated by the slave owner.

I think you have a good point. The serf in Russia had perhaps a quarter of his labor and its products expropriated by his overlords. Tomorrow we discover which we are; citizens or slaves.
