SNIPPET: "A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper shot a man in the entry of a church in Salina on Saturday morning after the man pulled a gun, Trooper J.L. Riedel said."
SNIPPET: "The shooting followed a 10- to 12-minute chase on South Old Highway 81 that began about 9:45 a.m. Riedel said. The suspect stopped at Emmanuel Christian Center and ran into a large entryway that was under construction.
The church was locked and there apparently were no activities going on in the building, Riedel said. The trooper shot the man after the man pulled a gun."
SNIPPET: "Bryan Hurlbut, a pastor at the church, said no one was at the church when the shooting happened and that a glass door apparently had been broken in the confrontation.
About 750 people attend Emmanuel Christian Centers weekend services, during which the church has security, Hurlbut said."
SNIPPET: "Loren Houltberg, a senior pastor at the church, said the suspect may have assumed people were in the church because a group of men parked their cars there before leaving on a retreat."

What journalistic bias! The headline gives the impression that the cop just walked into a church and started shooting. Only after reading the article does one come to the correct conclusion.
I understand Greg.
I always quote the text as written.
It is not my style of writing to slant an article.
Thanx.
I saw the headline, and thought the cop was a ‘hero’ for stopping a church massacre.
The bias can run either way, BUT the journalists ensure that there IS a bias to garner more sales.
In any case, it ended well, for everyone except the perp—as it should be.
And I was impressed by the pastor's quote that he assumed the bad guy thought there were lots of people ther because lots of cars were parked there.
It did end well.
I’ll watch for updates and post them — if any.
Thanks! I’m really curious what precipitated the whole thing, and more about the perp, since the cops aren’t releasing any information.
Small details update:

Todd Pittenger Printer Friendly Email to a Friend
SNIPPET: “After receiving a call that a man armed with a handgun had threatened to kill himself and a woman, law enforcement located the man in a vehicle in rural Saline County.”
SNIPPET: “Salina Police Officers assisted in town, and at one point tried to disable the vehicle with road spikes.”
SNIPPET: “State troopers and a Salina Police Officer unsuccessfully tried to tase him. The suspect pointed his gun at the officers, and was shot once in the abdomen by a trooper. Officers fired only the one single shot at the man.
The man was transported by EMS to Salina Regional Health Center in critical condition.”
Sounds like a nasty domestic case followed by attempted suicide by cop.
Yep.
