Breaking News: A volcano just erupted in southern part of Iceland, under the glacier Eyjafjallajökull. They are starting to clear farms in the lowlands below the glacier, and ash has started to fall in the area. There has not been though much earth tremors following this.
Farmers in the area are seeing fire in the glacier and the stench is reportedly very strong. These are the most affected areas, the red is in most danger of beeing flooded with toxic water at high speed:

The greatest danger following this is that the volcanic eruption will melt the glacier and a huge amount of melted glacier water will flood down the floodplaines, and the grown lands in the Southern flat lands of the country below the clacier. Some farmers have just under an hour to abandon their farms and get to safety.
Most farms are though on small hilltops, so depending on how great the eruption is, and where the meltwater will mostly flow, the devastation can be all from mostly grown land and roads to severe economic damage at a hight of an extended financial crisis extended by a impotent government and blackmailing from the EU nations especially the UK and the Netherlands.
Information from the wikipedia site:
"Eyjafjallajökull [glacier] is one of the smaller glaciers of Iceland. It is situated to the north of Skógar and to the west of the larger glacier Mýrdalsjökull.
The last eruption was from 1821 to 1823, causing a fatal glacier run. The crater of the volcano has a diameter of 34 km and the glacier covers an area of about 100 km². The south end of the mountain was once part of the Atlantic coastline. As the sea has since retreated some 5 km, the former coastline has left behind sheer cliffs with a multitude of beautiful waterfalls, the best known of them being Skógafoss.
In strong winds, the water of the smaller falls can even be blown up the mountain. Between 3rd and 5th of March 2010 there were measured close to 3000 earthquakes at the epicenter of the volcano. Most were very small but some could be detected in the nearby towns.[1]
These tremors were thought to be maybe a precurser of an eruption, that now is coming to fruition.
not a problem...lol
This is interesting.
BANDUNG, Indonesia, March 19 (UPI) — Seventeen of 18 volcanoes in Indonesia are on alert status and emitting toxic gas, a federal monitoring agency said.
“...will melt the glacier...Must be global warming.”
So now CO2 emissions cause volcanic eruptions?
How pathetic is that? I feel for you.
Interesting.
THx Thx.
There are a lot more than “18” volcanoes in Indonesia. There are 143 volcanoes in Indonesia with Holcene eruptions.
Some sort of horribly mistranslated article.
Prayers up and we love Iceland.
Will spread the word and tell the priest to mention Iceland for prayer tomorrow.
Bookmarking, so I can see your pictures, when I am on a better connection.
Active Volcanoes Indonesia, actually USGS only list 17....lol

If you are getting any ash get you and your friends some dust masks. You can breath in glass shards which i don't need to tell you how bad that can be.
Also some protection over the air intake on vehicles if they MUST be driven.
I’ve been reading what the ChiComs are up to here and there, buying up mines, ag lands, countries - like Zimbabwe (Mugabe is buying or has bought a huge mansion in Hong Kong)... building huge highway to Nepal - access to India? - planning big military base in IIRC Lanka, and also the Persian Gulf.
They basically want to control many resources currently - ahem - in use by other people.
Reminds me of Gernmany in the 30s. I think they’re aiming for war.
Don’t do it, Iceland!
Good points.
They certainly claim this as not only the Chinese century but the Chinese millenium.
They really do feel it is
THEIR TURN
to “rule the world.”
And they are inclined to view that literally.
1) That page does not claim to be comprehensive list of volcanoes in Indonesia, and that list has no relation to whether any of the volcanoes are active or not.
2) If you had bothered to actually read the page you’re linking to, you would have noticed that it states:
“The Volcanological Survey of Indonesia (VSI) now operates a network of 64 volcano observatories continuously monitoring 59 volcanoes.”
and
“Indonesia leads the world in many volcano statistics. It has the largest number of historically active volcanoes (76),”
2) The ACTUAL list of volcanoes in Indonesia (which have erupted in the Holocene, that is, roughly the last 10,000 years) is 143 (Note that Narcondum and Barren Island are part of the same geological origin as Indonesian volcanoes, but are actually Indian-controlled islands.)
http://www.volcano.si.edu/world/region.cfm?rnum=06&rpage=list
“The Global Volcanism Program database for Volcanoes of Indonesia currently contains 145 Holocene volcanoes and 6 Pleistocene volcanoes with thermal activity, sorted below in geographical (volcano number) order. Descriptions of the various “Volcano Type” and “Volcano Status” designations can be found on the Volcano Data Criteria page.”
3) The Indonesians have a pretty horrid and painful webpage for geological monitoring. Along the right side, there is (surprise surprise) a list of 18 volcanoes along with a color-coded alert status. Many of the volcanoes on the list were given their alert status in 2008, 2007, or 2006. Only two volcanoes have had their status changed in 2010, and none within the last month.

4) The lesson here is don’t rely on incompetent, practically non-existent news “wires” run by the Moonies (UPI).
5) There’s only one volcano with anything resembling a significant eruption in Indonesia at the moment, Batu Tara, and it’s been erupting for a long time now.
6) There’s nothing remotely unusual about volcanic activity in Indonesia, or the world, which is what I suspect certain people are desperately trying to find.
Have been to your lovely country and was amazed at the beauty. You are allies and friends to true Americans. Be strong and resist the forces of evil in the world. About the volcano...duck and cover. God bless!
I was agreeing with you.
I believe that is where they got their info, sorry I did not explain that.
Google translation of an official communication on the earthquake. As suspected not under the glacier. Also eruption plume is small not at the enought height to produce static electricity. Worry now is the earthquake and migration of the fissure that was created tonight.
“Low gosstrókar come from cracks
Jarðvísindamenn um borð í þyrlu Landhelgisgæslunnar, TF-Líf, segja gosið norðalega í Fimmvörðuhálsi, milli Eyjafjallajökuls og Mýrdalsjökuls. Jarðvísindamenn aboard Coast Guard helicopter, TF-Life, say erupted north lega in Fimmvörðuhálsi, between Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull. Gossprungan virðist vera 1 km að lengd og liggur í norðaustur-suðvestur. Gossprungan seems to be 1 km long and lies in a northeast-southwest. Lágir gosstrókar koma úr sprungunni og lítil aska sjáanleg. Low gosstrókar come from the cracks and small ash visible. Þyrlan lendir fljótlega í Vestmannaeyjum og bíða þar átekta. Helicopter lands soon in the Westman Islands and wait until átekta. Flugvélin TF-Sif er á leið á staðinn, samkvæmt upplýsingum frá Landhelgisgæslunni. The aircraft TF-Sif is the way the Instead, according to information from the Coast Guard.
Þar sem eldgosið í Eyjafjallajökli kemur upp í Fimmvörðuháls er ekki talin jafn mikil hætta á flóðum. Since the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull occurs in Fimmvörðuháls is not considered as high risk of flooding. Gosið kemur því ekki upp undir íshellu jökulsins eins og er. The eruption is not up under the ice jökulsins as is. Gunnar Guðmundsson jarðeðlisfræðingur segir þó að vaxandi hætta sé á því að gossprunga rifni í átt að jöklinum en það myndi auka líkur á gosi. Gunnar Guðmundsson jarðeðlisfræðingur says although growing risk that gossprunga rifni towards the glacier, but it would increase the likelihood of eruption. Fyrstu viðbrögð jarðvísindamanna eru að þetta sé óvenjuleg eldvirkni með tilliti til þeirra jarðskjálfta sem verið hafi í námunda við jökulinn. Initial reactions earth scientists is that this is an unusual Volcanoes with regard to the earthquake that has been near the glacier.
Ólafur Eggertsson á Þorvaldseyrir er fyrir ofan byggðina á Skógum og segir að gosið í Eyjafjallajökli sé beint upp af Skógarfossi. Ólafur Eggertsson on Þorvaldur Eyrir above based on forests and says that erupted in Eyjafjallajökull be addressed by the Forest waterfall. Bjarminn hafi aukist. Bjarmi have increased. Allir séu búnir að rýma í Skógum og sé allt í góðu lagi þar. All are equipped to evacuate in the forests and everything is fine there.
Steinunn Jakobsdóttir, geologist at Veðurstofunni, said that the eruption is nálgægt Fimmvörðuhálsi, which is familiar and popular walking trail. Low activity of the jarðskjálftamælum. Gosmökkurinn sé ekki enn komin í 3 kílómetra hæð en þá sjáist hann á radar. Gosmökkurinn not yet reached the height of 3 kilometers, but then it visible on radar. Hún segir að á meðan gosmökkur sjáist ekki á radar sé ekki mikil hætta á eldingum. She says that while gosmökkur not visible on the radar is not a high risk of lightning. Gosið sé frekar súrt og því þykkt hraun og seigfljótandi sem komi upp. The eruption is more acid and the thickness of lava and seigfljótandi that come up. Gosið sé ekki undir íshellunni. The eruption is not under the ice.

I lived in Keflavik for a couple of years in the early 1970s. I was a Navy wife, but we lived off base the first year. I did a local tv show on AFRTS.
Iceland is a dramatically beautiful country. For a young couple without kids, it was great to be able to explore the countryside. I remember fishing for salmon in the rivers to the southeast. Tons of gnats, you had to wear netting over a hat or you’d breathe them in. There was also a whale rendering station to the northwest of Reykjavik. That was fascinating.
Stay safe.
Overflight of Eyjaf showing lava flow and quite the long fissure!
