Answer: yes, it goes to the very core of Socialism. It is the very antithesis of liberty and limited government, but obviously you have corrupted ideals and notions that lead you to advocate these very ideals. I'll give you an example, the Department of Education. Now, common thinking today would reject that this is a communist inception, but if you go back to the early 20th century...historically speaking, it was in the platform of the Communist Party and it became a reality in 1979.

Also, this tactic of of brushing off discussion of these topics is easy, and almost always causes people like you to mock these arguments, regardless of the truth, and then move on the idea of popularity. Perhaps the fact that you believe socialism is popular is exactly why the founders of this country rejected democracy and opted to form a republic. Needless to say, it is hard to compete with what government-run schools are doing to entire generations of kids, what the Ward Churchills on are doing throughout campuses across the country, and what a leftist news media are doing to "educate, inform, and delude."
