LOL — Nope nothing like that (or I wouldn’t be married with children now would I)? LOL No, my daughter and I are WAY too stubborn and independent to get along well in a military environment. I could probably do just fine now in my 30s as part of a group/team, but there is no way I would’ve lasted through basic at 18. My mouth would have gotten me in too much trouble! My daughter is too much like me to do well in the military, too.
Here’s a little irony for ya though — her friend is leaving for basic in a month. They had lunch the other day and he tried to recruit her into the ARMY - gave her his enlistment officer’s card when she told him she still didn’t know what she wanted to do when she graduated! Her Dad and I got a really good laugh when she came home and told us. I would be VERY proud if she volunteered, don’t get me wrong. I just don’t think it’s a good match for her personality.
Whenever the recruiters would call about my daughter (when she was in H.S.) I would ask them if they’d ever seen the movie “Private Benjamin”.
“but there is no way I wouldve lasted through basic at 18. My mouth would have gotten me in too much trouble!”
When I was in your friendly Drill Sargent would have fixed that right sharply...
The Army is not about personality matching... it is about responsibility, self-discipline, and honor... among others.
