Citing two leaders of the group, the Times reported ACORN is suffering from "mismanagement along with a severe loss of government and membership funds."
The organization has been reeling since a secretly recorded YouTube.com video was disseminated last September showing ACORN workers giving advice on how to flout the law to two conservative activists who posed as a pimp and a prostitute.
Employees involved in the incidents in New York were fired from the organization but have been cleared of criminal prosecution.
Since September, at least half of ACORN's 30 chapters have disbanded, the Times said. The group's large New York and California chapters have set up fresh organizations.
Congress voted by wide margins to prohibit the federal government from funding ACORN and the Census Bureau ended its partnership with the group.

I really just don’t believe this.
All they did was change into differently-named organizations. It might be true what’s left of ACORN may be low on funds, but the groups that have broken off from ACORN I am sure are still getting money under their new names.
Didn’t ACORN get like 5 billion+ from the stimulus slush fund?
I read on biggovernment/bigjournalism that Obama has started funding them again.
I’m suspicious... I think they plan to declare bankruptcy, then startup again under a new name, with all that stimulous money earmarked for community organizing.

Bankruptcy just allows the rats to scatter and reorganize under a different not-for-profit umbrella.
It's all bullsh#t. Unless you have criminal prosecution and cut off ALL funding for these stupid groups then it's just a shell game.
We need to go to ZERO except for military and rebudget up from that point. Get rid of Education, National Endowment for the Arts, and about 1000 other little fiefdoms that have nothing to do but graft. Even the Army Corps of Engineers and the EPA need to be zeroed out. Everybody fired and then reapply for jobs.
This is good, but not good enough. I want to see all Acorn MEMBERS bankrupt.
