Theres a scene in the Lion King, when Simbas old friend, Nala, a lioness, (yes, I know way too much about this movie, and so do you if youre tracking) discovers Pumba and Timon frolicking in jungle. Nala, not knowing that Simba has befriended the curious duo, begins to attack Pumba the warthog with a primal fierceness that displays the lioness true and innate nature. Of course after a bit of action and slapstick, Simba suddenly appears to rescue his new pals from his former childhood friend. He then proceeds to explain to Nala that the would-be hors'douvres were now his best friends.
After the initial introductions and pleasantries, Timon demands a point of order, Wait a minute, wait one minute! Let me get this straight. You know her. She knows you. But she wants to eat him. And everybody's okay with this?! Did I miss something?!
This is a mirror of the scene being played out before my eyes in Washington DC right now, with the Democrats playing the part of Nala the hungry Lioness, the Warthog representing our economic health, constitutional rights, freedoms and liberties; Simba representing approximately 48% of the American people, and the surprised, angry and incensed Timon representing me, and a large percentage of todays American patriots.
The democrats are of the precipice of passing a bill that will effectively give control of at a minimum - one-sixth of our economy; much more if it follows suit with almost every other governmental program and bureaucracy in our countrys history. Not only are we talking about the effective loss of our privacy and freedoms,; not only the insurmountable debt being laid upon the backs of our children; not only the surety of seeing our own taxes being used to fund abortions; not only the absolute destruction of our economy via increased taxes and penalties on individuals and small businesses alike; not only these things and much more. No. But also this: that they are doing this, passing this monstrosity using bribery, back room deals, deceptive accounting and procedural trickery.
And everybody's okay with this?! Did I miss something?!
What has happened to us? Where is the universal outrage that should cross all party and economic-status lines? 48% of the people disapprove of this legislation? Where are the rest of the people getting their news from? How ignorant of current events must one be to be okay with this? But perhaps a better question for most people in the OK-corral is this: how dependent must you already be upon government to provide for you life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Ive always had this little pet peeve: when I hear someone, especially a politician, refer to our rights as inalienable. You see, our rights are purposefully defined by our founders as unalienable. Whats the difference you ask? An inalienable right has been defined by the judiciary as Rights which are not capable of being surrendered or transferred without the consent of the one possessing such rights. We can surrender, sell or transfer inalienable rights if we consent, either specifically or constructively (little bits here and there, over time). Inalienable rights are not inherent in man and can be alienated by government. The Obama administration believes your healthcare is inalienable.
But, our nations founders were clear when they wrote in our Declaration of Independence, We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.
Blacks Law Dictionary is the most widely used and accepted law dictionary in the United States, and has been for centuries. In its 6th edition, it defines unalienable as: incapable of being alienated, that is, sold and transferred." We cannot surrender, sell or transfer unalienable rights. They are a gift from the creator to the individual and cannot under any circumstances be surrendered or taken. All of us have unalienable rights.
How truly blessed we are to live in a nation founded by godly men and women, who knew that our unalienable rights come from the Creator, not government. How wise they were to have created a framework for the laws and declarations establishing our country on the basis of this truth, and then to instill and govern with the values and principles promoting and solidify this truth? And yet, we find ourselves here, on the precipice of being eaten by the lioness. We have confused our unalienable rights with inalienable one.
The government our government - does not have a right to pass this legislation in the manner in which it is doing so. It does not have the right to take from us, that which is given to us by our Creator. They were elected to preserve the nation weve been blessed to have for over 200 years, but instead are in point of fact, trying to create one: a nation where the rights of the governed are not given by a creator, but by the government. Turn on the television this weekend. You will see the lioness roar. You will see this administration take from us and our children, our quality of life, our liberty and our freedoms. With the passage of this abhorrent legislation - they are degrading if not ultimately destroying our ability to pursue happiness.
And everybody's okay with this?! Did I miss something?!
