In seeking enough votes to overhaul the nation's health care system, President Barack Obama is telling nervous Democratic lawmakers that their political fates are linked to the bill's passage, discouraging the notion that they can save themselves by opposing it, House members say.
They also say the president's not asking lawmakers to save his skin either, while the White House insists that no special favors in exchange for votes are being offered or accepted.
The president has pushed aside almost all other matters, including a long-planned Asia trip, now rescheduled for June, to try to embolden House Democrats who have wavered on the health care legislation, which he has championed for a year.
"I think the president, in the calls and the meetings that he's having" with lawmakers "is making great progress," White House press secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters Thursday.
Gibbs, who said the president has spoken with more than three dozen Democratic lawmakers since Monday, repeatedly sidestepped questions of whether Obama has told them his presidency's fate depends on the legislation's passage.
Such suggestions could be ticklish because all 435 House seats are up for grabs in November, whereas Obama won't face voters until 2012.
In interviews with House Democrats who have spoken with Obama lately, none described an overtly save-me message from the president. Most spoke of sober, policy-drenched conversations in which Obama essentially equated good policy with good politics, for him and them.

If this bill goes through, what do you want to bet the NASA funding is revisited within six months? I'd be keeping an eye on other relevant matters in key member districts, as well. Gotta wonder what kind of payoff Kucinich is getting, for example.

YES! And, the biggest culprit in the threatened loss of our freedom in our nation is the major news media. Speaking of that, at this moment, I am extremely frustrated as I have been listening to WALL STREET IN THE MORNING on my radio. They spout the administration line on everything and not a word about any negative on this health care bill. I listen to them in the a.m. while I get ready for my day because they are about the only news program on in my area. I turned them off today and will not listen again.
When we are pulled into a third world situation, I hope the people left to suffer will place the blame on the right culprits..the members of the leftist media in the early part of the 21st century.

Any elected official who votes 'Yes' whether it passes or not, will be dealt with in November if they're up for re-election. And, we the people, have long memories to defeat the rest of the maggots.
Final mission on these Senate or Congressional changes is to repeal this bill, if passed, and IMPEACH Obambi and his czars and other appointees because of this illegal power and monetary grab.

The Dark Side has a goal of turning America into a synthesis of communism and capitalism on the way to the NWO.
But so few people have figured out where this is headed, there is little we can do to stop it.
And then those of us who see what is going on are called wackos and nut jobs.
Here’s what the “Obama is just trying to help people who can’t afford health insurance” folks are understanding (or digging deeper to find out and just listening to the parrots on the TV). This is just one example of one minor part of this disaster.
If they qualify for Medicaid, they will automatically be enrolled in Medicaid. Now Medicaid is a state run program and states are already struggling, some not even able to pay income tax refunds. Not to mention the additional caseload will cause more doctors to flee from accepting it. Now this is fine and dandy, here I have “health coverage” and no damn doctor to treat me!
To solve this, (and given Obama/government will now be in control of who gets funding for higher education), in order to qualify for student loans, you will be required to work for so many years as a government doctor. Sort of like joining the Peace Corp will help with student loans, except this will probably be mandatory. So yay! All these people get this “free” healthcare and their only physician is a disgruntled and inexperienced doctor.
We won’t even go into people finding out that they have to pay for this for four years before they see a benefit. There will be so much celebration from the Dems, I can imagine the look on faces when they find out they aren’t covered ‘yet.’

I live in Kucinich’s district. He could murder his mother in Public Square and still get elected. He represents mostly low income people on Cleveland’s West Side and he has them fooled into thinking he’s a man of the people. He got his bribe AND he’ll get re-elected.
