Running for Congress, Assemblyman Chuck DeVore pushed a proposal Wednesday to pump billions into California's budget this year, largely curing its deficit, without raising taxes.
DeVore's legislation, Assembly Bill 2719, would allow new oil drilling but not new rigs off California's coast by requiring firms to use directional or slant drilling from existing platforms.
The Irvine Republican, meeting with The Bee's Capitol Bureau, said participating firms could receive a price break if they prepay future royalties and taxes, which would boost state coffers this year.
"If you run the counts on both of those, I can put about $16 billion into the budget this year, without raising taxes, and it would create 7,000 direct jobs in the oil fields," he said.
Democrats opposed additional coastline drilling last year.

P!
Bump
This is a no brainer.
California needs to save money by cutting pensions and make money by offshore drilling. They refuse to do it and prefer to get a Federal bailout. But the time will come for pension cuts and it will be bloody. And one day the eco-freaks will be stiff armed and there will be drilling
And shipped offshore and dumped into ocean. Sharks need something to eat.
Grind them up into shark chum
What would be common sense to a grade-schooler is completely lost on California liberals.
He just got my vote. BUT the state needs to cut its budget and limit pentions. California has the highest paid assemblty people in the nation—average 99,000 dollars. How about cutting that by half? How about cutting teachers pay? Cut cops and firefighters by 10% sell off some state parks? Drilling is the first big step but the bleeding must be stopped! I got an idea—Charge the illegals $1,000 a head to come across the border. They pay that to coyotes to smuggle them in—why not let the state collect the money for “temporary visas” Then we can keep some track of them at least. Lets lower the drinking age to 18—that would attract tourists to the state. How about legal gambling of some form? Lots of ways to bring in money—BUT we must CUT Spending.
Now why in the hell would you want to poison all those sharks? What’d they do to you?
Why those are the very finest veggie-fed eco-freaks that can be had! What possessed you to think such a thing?
