This is what happens when an ordinary--very ordinary--kid is over-praised all his life and told he is wonderful even when he is not accomplishing much at all. He keeps blundering on, and keeps going until he finally reaches a level where people cannot help but notice he is a jackass who has gone far on bluff and influence.
