To the dismay of the Seneca Nation of Indians the House of Representatives followed the lead of the U.S. Senate and overwhelmingly approved the Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking Act, sending the measure to President Obama.
The Senecas called the PACT Act vote a sucker punch to our federal treaty rights and a victory for Philip Morris and other global tobacco companies to wipe out competition anyway they can.
If signed by Obama, the legislation would ban the delivery of tobacco products through the U.S. mail. For the Senecas, that would curtail a significant business and, they say, jeopardize 1,000 jobs in Western New York.
This is a direct assault on our economy and our people. And it will have a devastating ripple effect on the Western New York economy, said Seneca Nation President Barry Snyder Sr., who along with other Seneca nation officials traveled to Washington to lobby ahead of Wednesdays vote.

Heads up to anyone who buys anything online - this will not end with tobacco sales. States want their tax dollars.
The liberals can’t make up their mind whether they hate tobacco more than they love the beleaguered Indians. Well actually they did and the Indians lost. The Indians were selling their own smokes, not the white man’s tobacco brands.
A hint to the Injuns: tomatoes grow well where tobacco did. What with the Mexico problems, tomatoes may be in high demand soon.
Would the last industry leaving New York state please turn out the lights?
I suppose they might be allowed to ship sun-dried tomatoes.
The Indians here in Arizona went big for Barry in November 2008. They thought he was cute.
later
Would make quite a funky smoke too.
To wit: "United States will prevent future confiscations of the property of Loyalists"
Seems to me the United States Congress just now violated the property rights of the Seneca in violation of the Treaty of Paris (1783).
Dirty little bunch of batardes!
I suppose the Senecas could sue...
Hint to the US government: keep effing with the economy - we’ll all be living in shipping crates soon, and your socialist revolution will be complete.
Well, my friend, it isn't the first time, nor will it be the last time.
I sure wouldn’t want to be the New York State Gov. for the next few years. A big portion of NYS is situated on and still considered tribal land, including Syracuse. Rent for the land is paid to them.
Might as well put those shipping crates to good use, the government wants to shut down internet sales so the taxes funnel to the states. The high taxed states screamed the loudest on this bill, it was introduced by a NY State congressman. In the Senacas' back yard.
I've got my eye on a nice sub zero fridge box....
Interestingly enough the Iroquois nations have mixed it up pretty well over the centuries and today's potential warrior is like my distant cousin, Ralph 'Bucky' Phillips. He is a descendant of about all the nations and is typical of the tougher bunch who could do the job.
Although he's a criminal you might like to read something about how he held off the combined forces of the New York and Pennsylvania State Police!
I do believe the folks in New York pushing for this cigarette mailing thing are oblivious to the risk they face.
We don't know how the other genes outside that particular sequence affect capability, but Simo and Buckey have definitely shown capabilities well outside those of your average human being.
Again, I find it difficult to believe there are politicians in New York who want to tangle with people like this.
Maybe they should get some tomahawks ready, eh.
WHERE are the liberals that were so in love with these Indians decades ago. When they’re needed, they’re nowhere to be found.
The genetic link makes sense. Anthropologists generally believe that what we know as Indians or Native Americans migrated from Asia to North America over a temporary land bridge across what is now the Bering Strait.
Is muawiyah your Injun name?
The local tribe runs around wearing Obama T shirts bearing the phrase, “Yes we can. Yes we did.” Suckers.
These guys are different than others. The public is generally unaware of how many of them there are out there, but they definitely exist.
