Leading a revolt against President Barack Obamas healthcare legislation over abortion has been a living hell for Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.).
The telephone lines in his Washington and district offices have been jammed and hes gotten more than 1,500 faxes and countless e-mails most of which he says dont come from his constituents.
The fight has taken a toll on his wife, who has disconnected the phone in their home to avoid harassment.
All the phones are unplugged at our house tired of the obscene calls and threats. She wont watch TV, Stupak said during an hourlong interview with The Hill in his Rayburn office. People saying theyre going to spit on you and all this. Thats just not fun.
Stupak has become a nationally known figure because of his demands for tough language in healthcare legislation to prevent any federal subsidies from being used for abortion services.

Michigan is a 3rd world country of a state. If the citizens there had any smarts, they’d purge the state of every last Demonrat - starting with this jackass. Recall or fire him... whatever it takes.
Don’t blast Stupak. If it wasn’t for him this bill would already have passed.
You asked for it by getting personal with our lives and bodies.
If you would like to be added or dropped from the Michigan ping list, please freepmail me.
Aw, poor guy! I wonder if a call to the ol' waaaaaaahmbulance will be covered under Obamacare.
HE AIN’T SEEN NUTHIN YET!
It is the left that are sending him death threats.
I would not be surprised if he switched parties before this is all over.
Doesn’t excuse him from being a liberal ninny. Ask freepers in his district. Except for life issues he’s a worthless toerag, and with any luck at all that district will soon be in the “R” column.
He could flip again if the right lingo goes into the reconciliation bill. Why is nobody talking about that?
No sympathy here. They deserve far worse for even entertaining the idea of nationalizing health care.
Are you kidding. He voted for the original House bill.
Stupak also voted to continue Planned Parenthood funding last year.
The guy's a Rat when it all boils down
I won’t give him a free pass because he voted yes the first time and we’re all paying the price for it.
Which in theory was to be dedicated to non-abortion services, but PP cheats and lies through its teeth. (Besides it frees up "general" contributions for the more nefarious side of the business.)
If he is sincere there will be no pressure. Only cowards feel pressure after the fact. Stupak is a cave-in in the making. Kucinich has whined the same sad song, and he is a cave-in.
Trust no one who whimpers about how hard it is to do the right thing. Of such crap is betrayal made.
If he thought Planned Parenthood wouldn’t use certain funding for abortions then he’s really dumber than I thought.
No, he hasn’t. He voted yes originally and he’s just holding out for his State bribe.
Francis Lewis had his home and estate plundered. His wife was captured and brutalized, later dying from the effects of bad treatment.
William Floyd and his family were unable to return to their pillaged home for seven years.
Philip Livingston was forced to leave his family and died alone in 1778.
Lewis Morris and family spent the entire war in exile, their vast estate and fortune destroyed.
“Honest John” Hart left his dying wife and 13 children behind, hiding in caves and forests. Years later he returned to find his wife's grave, his 13 children gone. He died alone, a broken man in 1779.
Richard Stockton was brutally beaten upon capture, and mistreated in prison. He died in 1781 a despondent 51 year-old.
Robert Morris lent his vast fortune and credit to the cause. He died broke in 1806.
William Ellery had his home and property looted.
Thomas Lynch Jr. sought vacation to aid his failing health, dying in a shipwreck.
Thomas Heyward, Edward Rutledge and Arthur Middleton lost their vast fortunes while in prison. Mrs. Heyward died while her husband was imprisoned.
Thomas Nelson Jr., despite failing health, served as a commander in the militia, and spent his personal fortune on the cause. At the battle of Yorktown, he ordered his own home destroyed by cannon fire while it was occupied by the British.
Abraham Clark was notified his two sons were captured and being brutally tortured while in prison. The British offered Clark his two sons freedom if he would renounce his signature on the Declaration of Independence. With a heavy heart he answered, “NO.”
Hey Stupak, STFU!
The thing that grinds my gizzard is that the USCCB (the most conservative voice the Roman Catholic Church has in the USA) seemed to be fine with the Stupak version of the bill. No no no, this is NOT meant as a bash to that church as an entirety, but that part of the RCC has definitely gotten looie. I mean, when Dr. Atlas is expected to shrug to the tune of 46%, that’s supposed to be a good work?
