The Republican primary for the Senate in Arizona is tightening up, according to a new Rasmussen Reports poll released Thursday.
The poll found that former Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-Ariz.) has closed to within single digits of incumbent Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), after trailing by 22 percent in January.
McCain now leads Hayworth 48 to 41 percent among likely GOP voters, with 8 percent undecided. The poll, conducted March 16, has a margin of error of 4 percent.
A majority of Republicans -- 60 percent -- have a favorable opinion of their senior senator, including 29 percent who view him very favorably. Thirty-six percent view McCain unfavorably. Hayworth's favorability rating is at 47 percent, with another 43 percent of Republican voters holding an unfavorable view.

John McCain, you treasonous bastard, I challenge you or any of your traitorous cohorts...
Send the old foghead to the corn patch J.D.!
Bless you....sometimes we forget..
Where can I donate to Hayworth! GO!!!
John McCain the man who brought us
The Gang of Seven (or was it eleven?)
Gun show controls
the McCain-Feinberg Act.
Tried to bring us the McCain-Kennedy Immigration Reform Act
AND the man who did more than anyone else to put the Marxist Muslim in the White House.
14 I think.
That is great news, I’ll donate to JD again tonight.
God Bless ya!
Sarah Palin, you’re a fool for supporting that RINO. In my book you have lost almost total respect. If you run for POTUS you certainly will no longer be at the top of my list, Paul Ryan is my pick. I like ya, but your taking a stand on a dilapidated old way of politics, THAT AIN”T ROGUE SARAH... who ya going to be loyal to is the question... Go Hayworth, luv ya dude!
Palin, I understand, though I don’t like it. Why the entire GOP apparatus is behind McCain is more of a mystery. This is a primary, for craps sake - stay out!
McCain has a ton of name recognition and a ton of seniority, which is an advantage for any state to have in congress.
Hayworth has the support of real conservatives.
So, the question is whether enough voters are unhappy with McCain to kick him to the curb in spite of all that seniority and name recognition.
The fact that he is a well-known incumbent, yet has only 48% support, is cheering. It’s not infallible, but the usual rule that an incumbent with less than 50% is in real trouble.
We’ll see how strong the tea party movement really is in AZ, I think.
McCain will spend 10 million dollars. Either we fund Hayworth, or he will lose.
