A Vancouver-area police dog has been taken out of service after attacking a teenager during a training exercise.
The West Vancouver Police say the dog and its handler were conducting training near a local community centre at around 11 p.m. on March 9 when they encountered two youths sitting on a park bench.
A news release says the dog "came into contact" with the upper body, arm and jacket sleeve of one of the youths before the handler was able to react.

rdo ping, and one for Chet to rail about the evils of police dogs.
Dog suspended without biscuits ?
Must’ve smelled a crime in his future.
Dog likely ID’d a perp with a bad attitude.
Too bad for Vancouver property owners.....
That youth just got a free college education and a nice annual annuity.
They KNOW when you’re high kid!!
Most likely the kid had dope in his pocket and the dog was in the right.
Dogs have a reasoning process, it’s just not the same as ours. At a police demo one time, I watched a dog go into “attack” mode when he’d been given the “hold” command. The officer playing the suspect was still wearing the arm guard. The dog saw it, and apparently concluded that his handler had given the wrong command.
“No problem, buddy, I’ll cover for you...” No! No!
I ‘ll take him. Sounds like a good onoe.
"I know you told me to go left, but I can smell a duck right over here, so I'll just pretend you told me to go right . . . "
"NO! NO! < TWEEEEEEEEEEEEET! > SIT!"
My not so smart dog just sits there and gives me a dumb look. She's getting better though - we did an hour's worth of T-drill yesterday and she seems to be able to tell left from right now . . . .
The dog has been transferred to a desk job, pending the results of an internal investigation into this incident.
LOL!
You wouldn’t believe how many cops are bitten while training their dogs.
Those dogs love to bite, one of them figured out the pads weren’t much fun and figured out how to get to tender spots while training. He was sent back to Germany for re education camp.
I’d never seen a sheepish Malinois before, but that’s the only way I can describe how this dog looked as he listened to his handler yell at him and watched the officer pick himself up off the ground. Head down, shoulders up. Pretty funny reaction.
LOL! Labradors are much better at looking sheepish . . . although my oldest girl really looks more embarassed than anything else. She is quite clever, and does everything with a twinkle in her eye. She can even pretend to be fierce when a stranger walks down the driveway. . . you can’t see the twinkle unless you look very closely.
