Farmers' lobby groups on Tuesday demanded clarity on a proposal that agricultural land become a "national asset", which they fear is a move towards nationalisation.

Although Land Affairs director-general Thozi Gwanya said the government was not considering nationalisation, and that making land a national asset was just a land reform "option...

Land invasion fears...talk of nationalisation of farms could be followed by land invasions, as happened in Zimbabwe...

the Chinese communist model in which farmers pay rent to the state which owns the land.

More than 90% of the 5.9 million hectares of land the state bought for emerging farmers was not productive.

This meant that the agricultural sector's portion of the gross domestic product could drop.

In Zimbabwe, after the farms were taken over, they were sacked, even to the point of ripping wiring out of the walls to sell. Now they’re sitting abandoned while the people starve.

It's sad how so many communist countries have the same bad luck. I'm sure it'll work much better here as Obama nationalizes more of our businesses. What are the chances that that we'll get as surprisingly, unexpectedly unlucky as the other commies have been?

Sounds a lot like what Obama’s doing here.. More land grabs, recreational fishing bans, etc.. (Under the guise of the green movement of course) This is right out of the Marxists handbook.

This is what happens when you voluntarily give up power to savages.

Yep, the rest of the world got a cheap and easy release valve for their liberal white guilt by pressuring the only successful nation in Africa to dismantle itself beyond all common sense so that they could "feel good" about themselves. Where are all those t-shirted hippies and punks now? They got their cheap warm fuzzy at South Africa's expense, and have moved on to ruining some other nation (they've finally gotten up to strength to openly take on the US), while South Africa is a blip in the rear view mirror, as it falls into the abyss.

Yes, but when it happens here people will just say that the “welfare” farmers deserved to go out of business and it is about time that someone who can do a better job of it has a chance and as in Zimbabwe, they won’t realize what a mistake they’ve made until it is too late. It is human nature, punish those who are perceived as wealthy (even though all that wealth is mortgaged to the hilt).

The Germans were pikers. My 1923 million mark note won’t go far in the new South Africa!

Note to land owning South Africans: Don’t be stupid.

They are intending to do much the same to you as was done in Zimbabwe. And if you are as meek as the white Rhodesians, you will suffer their same fate. And some of you will be murdered in the process.

This does not mean that this is a certainty, however. If you do not waste time, screw around, and trust in the kindness of people that hate you, you may have a chance.

The first thing this means is that you must for powerful alliances with those who do not wish to share your fate. And these alliances must be strong enough to stop this nonsense in its tracks.

Since your enemy does not want to stop, it must not be given a choice in the matter. It must stand to lose much more than it would gain by taking your land. Importantly, this must mean losing what matters to them, not what you think *should* matter to them.

In short, they must be made to fear tyrannizing you. This is not unreasonable. In fact it is what every democratic government must face. A fear of tyrannizing its citizens, with the threat of it finding itself on the receiving end of its citizens anger.

Often it is human nature to screw around until things have fallen apart. And were the South African white wise, they would have taken these measures on their own, and some time ago. So our assumption must be that they are foolish, that they will be driven from their lands, and their nation destroyed, by individuals who see that destruction as superior to what you have now.

I'll admit how dumb I am. I went to South Africa with an extra $5,000. Was going to buy gold cheap.
Found out I got a better price in NY.
They do not want to devalue their product.

Already happened here - just by other means - OR: Klamath Valley (sucker fish protection), CA: San Jochin Valley (smelt protection), WA State: loggers (spotted owl protection), salmon drift net (marbled murrelet and Tribal Indian protection), North Dakota: world’s largest rare earth mine (incumbant presidential protection).

When they came for us... now it is the rest of the country’s turn.
