State Dept says consulate closed for security review

U.S. says too early to say if diplomats targeted

U.S. in for long haul in Mexico's anti-drug fight

WASHINGTON, March 15 (Reuters) - The United States pledged support for Mexico on Monday in its war against drug gangs as the FBI joined the investigation of the murders of two Americans and a Mexican linked to the U.S. consulate in a violent border city.

"The tragedy of this weekend just underscores how severe and significant a danger this represents to Mexico, to the United States, to the hemisphere," State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley told a news briefing.

"We all share that determination that ultimately, through a variety of means, we will take back these streets one community at a time."

U.S. President Barack Obama on Sunday voiced outrage over the murders, part of a surge in drug-related violence along the U.S.-Mexico border that has alarmed Washington.

"U.S. says too early to say if diplomats targeted"

Have they all lost their minds? Of course they were targeted.

I would do a lot more than just send FBI help. I would say “Killing our consulate people is an act of war!” and if the Mexican govt. wasn’t in a position to help, send in the SEALs.

Funny they don't react this way when ordinary American citizens are killed on their own streets by Mexican illegal aliens.

We need to close all our consulates and bring all the U.S. citizens back to the U.S. Then shut down the friggin border - if necessary by putting a member of the armed military every 50 feet and let no one cross again. Then start a sweep for illegals on the northern border and send them and all their drugs back across the border. Just how long do we have to put up with the stupidity of our own government.

And why is Bummer & Co. caring suddenly about the carnage to one Mexican when thousands have perished elsewhere in Mexico over this mad war?

We don’t need the FBI. We need the whole damn Marine Corps (which is not pronounced corpse).

The LA Times had a piece over the weekend that said that 18,000 Mexicans have been killed since 2006 in this latest bloom of drug-related violence. 18K of course dwarfs all of our casualties in Iraq, Afghanistan and on 9/11 since 9/11. Keep in mind, Mexico is also only a third of our size, so 18K there would be close to 54,000 here. IOW, Mexico has a HUGE problem on their hands that isn't going away anytime soon.

[. . .shut down the friggin border. . .]

The economic disruption for Mexico would be so severe they would be forced to destroy the cartels. When Mexico was slow to respond to Nixon he ordered every inbound vehicle at border crossings stopped and searched. This got Mexico's attention real fast.

Agree completely, Grams A.

Why in hell is the State Dept. still allowing students and other Americans to go to Mexico for Spring break? Why are dumb American parents allowing their kids to go there? Why are dumb American citizens continuing to cross the border into Mexico every day?

Gov. Perry (R-TX) has asked for more National Guard assistance to support the Border Patrol’s pathetic efforts on the Texas border to stem the tide of illegal aliens and drugs. As far as I know, the Obama administration hasn’t even given him a response. He did use the Texas Rangers a couple of years ago to help the Border Patrol (Operation Backup).

Targeting and killing American State Dept. personnel in Mexico should trigger rapid response talks with the Mexican government that would permit US military into the country to wipe out the drug cartels. The Mexican government obviously can’t handle the situation because so many police and military personnel are being paid by the cartels.

I’m all for closing the borders for a time and declaring a free fire zone where our guys can eliminate anyone who enters. The PC crowd has handcuffed our Border Patrol agents with restrictions and made them targets of the criminals. ....I don’t give a damn about the impact on the commerce of various goods, fruits and vegetables between the countries via trucking; I’m more concerned about the drugs, guns, gangs and other illegal aliens who have significantly increased the crime rates in the US.

Rant over, but it felt good to get it out. ......octex

Okay, here’s a HUGE problem I have with this. I am tired of the false and logically unsound argument that “US gun laws are arming the cartels.”

You can’t buy RPGs at a gun store. You can’t buy a full-auto AK-47 with an under-mounted grenade launcher from a gun show.

And more to the point, how come nobody has connected the dots and pointed out that MEXICO’s restrictive gun laws prevent citizens from defending themselves? This is ridiculous. President Calderon seems to be a good guy and much less corrupt than Fox and Zedillo, but he has a HUGE mess to deal with. An unarmed citizenry is one of the problems.

Well, uh, just some random thoughts here.

The press and the government are quick to characterize the assailants as members of Mexican drug cartels, or gangs.

What if the victims were targeted because they represent what the United States stands for and once the deed was done, the assailants exchanged their sombreros for turbans?

Yep, what if this was an act of (this word is officially banned by the Obama administration) terrorism conducted by agents of Al Queda?

Hmm...possible, but al-Qaeda or other Muslim groups would be going way far out of their way to attack the Juarez consulate. If they wanted to kill Americans, it seems to me like the embassies in Lebanon, Pakistan, Egypt, or Iraq would be more likely targets.

By the way, and this is why I’m pinging All, does anyone know if the Minutemen are still active? I tried doing a Google search and got like 5 different groups, and I’m not sure how any of them are related. The websites also look pretty out of date. If I’m going to donate to this, I want to make sure it’s going to people who have their act together...some of these websites don’t look very professional, they mean well probably, but I want to make sure they are legit with their business

If these Mexican gangsters don’t shape up pretty soon President O’Bow-Mao might just not give them their amnesty. In fact if he really gets mad he might even give them the bird! And then gobble down another booger when no one’s looking!!
