Former Republican House leader Dick Armey said staunch anti-immigration opponents such as Rep. Tom Tancredo are destructive to Republicans — and are alienating a “natural” constituency that could help the party win elections.
“Who in the Republican Party was the genius that said that now that we have identified the fastest-growing voting demographic in America, let’s go out and alienate them?” Armey said, referencing Hispanics, during a luncheon in Washington at the National Press Club.
“When I was the majority leader, I saw to it that Tom Tancredo did not get on the stage because I saw how destructive he was,” Armey said of the Colorado congressman and 2008 Republican presidential candidate known for his opposition to illegal immigration.
Armey said “this is a nation of immigrants” and “if you love America, love freedom” and if you will work and pay taxes, you should be welcome in the country.
The former majority leader, who is now chairman of FreedomWorks and heavily involved in the Tea Party movement, said the INS is “deformed” and “dysfunctional.”
“They way they treat these folks is unbelievably rude and callous and cruel. Fix that agency, make it do its job, make it do its job in a humane … fashion and then you can control the borders,” he said.

There are numerous teenagers that can pick apples for the same cost that 'migrant farm workers' get paid. But because of the government controlled UNION wage scale, these teenagers are NOT finding jobs. I remember when my children were 13-14 nobody would hire them because they were two young and had no experience to be paid even then the minimum wage. So they found lawn mowing jobs from people in our neighborhood, until they reached the age of 16 and worked odd jobs, for that minimum wage.
There is NO shortage of labor there is a UNION wage scale controlled by a bunch of control freaks. Personally, I would be in favor of requiring teenage delinquents to be required to work for their roof and meals, even picking apples.

25% of the welfare benefits paid out in Los Angeles County are to illegal immigrants. That does not count the cost of educating their children.
It shows what an important voting bloc illegal aliens are to the Democrats.
Tancredo wants to enforce our immigration laws but it might offend the lawbreakers so Armey and others who have made it possible for Barack Obama to be elected want Tancredo to shut up.
Armey maintains the Bush era delusion that illegal alien lawbreakers who cheat and steal benefits and government handouts are the Republicans “natural” constituency. In his fantasy all we need to do is grant amnesty to 20 million illegals and they will rush to join the republican party and kick the democrats out of office.
They will do this even though they know democrats will give them more free stuff than will the repubicans.
It is clear who is delusional and it isn’t Tancredo.

Tell me, Dick, how destructive was it to the GOP for President Bush, Senators McCain and Lindsey Grahamnesty to push "comprehensive immigration reform"? What happened after that CF? Gee, the GOP lost it's majorities in the House and Senate, then went on the lose the White House.

Armey and his FreedomWorks group wormed their way into the TEA Party movement through the TEA Party Express, I think. They sponsored meetings and speakers, etc, in DC last September.
They have money to buy their way in....doesn’t mean that we, TEA Partiers, think like they do though. Those I know disagree completely on immigration.
